The lack of appointments is the same situation that existed before COVID when the lines were hours deep. Your state offices are undermanned because your previous GOP admin was so intent of cutting taxes to lure businesses that didn't come anyway that your stae government offices don't function very well. You get what you pay for. I don't know why people are so constantly surprised at that.

The Secretary of State offices worked vastly better and more efficiently under the Republican Secretaries of State that followed Richard Austin than it did in the many years when he "ran" the department.  Not well enough to rival private businesses in terms of customer service, but still vastly better.  And now, with a Democratic Governor and SOS, they hardly work at all.

And I never waited hours, because I got there before the office opened and was in and out very quickly.  Or I took advantage of the appointment system that actually worked.

I will agree with you that SOS never ran before or since the way it did under Candace Miller. But 1995 was still the GOP of GHWB. That party and governing philosophy is long gone.

So I was in Pinckney today,  which is not nearly the socialist pinko redoubt Ann Arbor is, and was really impressed at the mask discipline at the Kroger and thought "well maybe everyone isn't crazy after all, maybe we have a shot at getting this back under control. But hadn't checked the numbers until UM game,  only to find out MI hit over 3000 cases to day and the country just shy of 80,000. So much for that.

Just because you saw the latter does not necessarily discount the former. Maybe the people you saw in Pinckney are the cautious ones who are going to make it unscathed through he pandemic, and many or most of the 3,000 people who are now cases are being, for lack of a more exact term, darwinized out of the Krogers.

The Michigan number did come with a caveat that said it reflects specimens taken over the last 5 days. They said 96% of them. Not sure what that means in relative terms. I guess just wait until the numbers officially get posted. The daily numbers they announce are just about what was reported that day. When they get posted on the state site they go against the date of first symptoms.

I would add: “We’ve done a tremendous job on the iceberg.”

From listening to a couple Sunday shows yesterday, another one is "the iceberg came from China, don't forget that"

Background... this is one of the hosts of a golf podcast out of Jacksonville. I saw this, had to comment because it affects my community.

Sharing because the replies to me are... something, and the original poster dm'ed me a "go f yourself " . At which point I screenshotted and have sent to their sponsors.

The world has gone nuts.

I didn't see one substantive response.

The most 2020 sports story imaginable.

Disagree.

Him coming back on the field to celebrate without a mask is more 2020.

The principal, an aide, and a second grade teacher at my wife's school have all tested positive in the last week.  Total staff of 29 (including part timers).

the numbers finally went from 15 to 0, with a detour to around 230k on the way.
