So is his comment supposed to be a positive or a negative towards mask wearers?

Maybe it is merely his interpretation of how it is perceived inside of the Republican party.

I was thinking that.... but I don’t know the person.  Maybe he actually thought he was being derogatory

You know Paulie wouldn’t get Covid.  He was a total germaphobe.

on the talking sopranos podcast David Chase wrote some character talking points of what they would say today.  I gotta find it.

So you are not old enough to have been embarrassed by your country napalming and carpet bombing hundreds of thousands of Vietnamese to death. Of course we may yet reach similar numbers if we don't stop screwing up our response to this. So which do I find more embarrassing, what we did to others or what we are doing to ourselves?

I guess so far this is worse for one reason: Vietnam did at least change some things. Since then we have never waged war so indiscriminately and with such total disregard for life just because it belongs to the people on the other side, and we don't draft the poor and POC to do it against their will. I don't know how much that counts for, but it is not nothing.

So far I don't see anything good coming out of this beyond the short term increase in the probability Trump is not re-elected. But the broken governance will remain when DJT has left the scene. The whole event just keeps driving the nation into more stupidity and ungovernability.

Well. who knows, maybe in 15 years people will look back on the new awakening that took root in the ruin of this event. Possible, but hard to be optimistic at this point.

That was pretty bad.  But I was born in 74 so I missed that phenomenon.

We are a clown show as a country.

At least Vietnam had the veneer of a foreign policy reason: the stop of the spread of communism.  Yeah yeah, it was just a veneer, but that was our goal as a country at the time.

This is nothing more than us destroying ourselves from within all in the name of showing some figure of authority that we dont give a ****.  it is American individualism at its worst.  A nation of brats who can't take a few months off to help others, but rather have to "do their own thing" no matter how much it puts their fellow countrymen/women in danger.

It is America at its worst.  It's embarrassing.

One other parallel to today: We were also pretty much an international pariah at the height of the VN war. I don't know how much of that aspect comes through in what successive generations learn about the war, but aside from a very few allies like Australia who had joined the fight, we were regularly savaged by the press and leadership in other developed countries. Lots of overseas talk (domestic as well!) about Nixon and Kissinger being war criminals.

I think people overseas see us with more pity and less anger than in the VN era, which is certainly cause for embarrassment!

You are correct.  That's why that Carl Bernstein article was ruined when he mentioned "leadership of the free world".  Similarly, a couple of weeks ago Chuck Todd asked a guest "Are you worried about America losing its moral authority?". I just rolled my eyes.  Moral authority.

This gloom and doom talk is precisely when we could use a leader that inspires and encourages people and gives a message of hope....

When Canada takes the Queen of another country off of their money, they can criticize.  Until then, stfu.  :)

If you were at Fifth Avenue in Royal Oak on June 19th, get tested.  Three people who were there that night have tested positive.
