I've been donating all my savings to charity... cancelled flights, golf tickets, gas money, etc...  Will do the same with the stimmy check, but I'm not getting much.

Charities so far:

  • Local food bank
  • Local charity a friend is involved in that raises money for volunteer medical workers
  • Restaurant/bar worker charities
  • City organized United Way fund
  • Local homeless shelter

Wonder how the citizens of LV feel about that.

Seriously, the stupidity behind one of the busiest tourist cities in the world just saying eh, **** it. What's the worst that could happen?

Las vegas should be the last place allowed to open. I wouldn't go to a casino and hotel there.

The hotels won’t open.  And nobody will go.

If they're pretty clear of cases, I could see them opening small parts of their economy. But a casino/hotel? No way. And if they did try to open, there would be thousands of permanent job loss. No tourist dollars coming in means less money and less workers needed. It would be a really slow opening.

To be honest, it might surprise you.    Not a judgment either way, just a statement of fact.

Or it might not surprise us.

Setting that aside, even if the citizens were ok with it, should a leader agree to go with it if she thinks it would result in at least a thousand more deaths?

I mean morally or ethically.

Some of the ones who work in tourism, sure.

But this isn't just opening jobs. You're inviting people from all over the country/world into their home town. This is not going to be ok for the vast majority.

No, it won't. We're not stupid.

From what I understand, and I could be wrong on this.................

In Georgia if you own a restaurant and you don't open, your employees will no longer be able to collect any unemployment.    Restaurants that decided not to stay open will not get any aid from the state and loans and rents will not be forgiven or even delayed.     Nice, isn't it?

Only kind of. It was great when Roundy for opened it. Not so upscale anymore now that Kroger got their hands on it.

I have family in the SW Burbs... apparently the prepared foods section is the ****

In the case of gambling, I think people will go because there are a lot of of addicts.  Casual gamblers who do it for fun won't go though.

It would surprise me if the citizens of a town wanted thousands of tourists from all over the country coming into their town. Or worse yet, losing their job permanently because none of those people are coming to town. But who knows, I'm sure there are Trump supporters out there.
