Coronavirus: Coming to a Neighborhood Near You?

Recommended Posts

My boyfriend is a Trump supporter. He hates listening to him talk, hates what he says about marginalized groups, hates that he's divisive, but loves the success that his business is having during his presidency. As much as I disagree, I can't blame him.

They thought they were getting a conservative,  not a huge spender. Believe me, I know a few who voted for him that admit they screwed up. A false bill of goods.

Ah, I see. OK.

I would counter that only conservatives with money are disappointed. They're the ones that really care about issues like government spending and the deficit and the debt and regulations and fiscal policy and all that. When rich people are conservatives, it's about the money.

Not poor people. When poor people are conservative, it's not about money policy, because they don't have any money, anyway. For them, it's about people—specifically, people who aren't like them. And since Trump is hard on people who aren't like them, they think he's doing just ****ing dandy.

I know a couple of people like that too.

I can blame him.  Sorry, but that's just stupidity and when he says he's doesn't like what he says otherwise, he's lying.  As if his business didn't do well under Obama.  Well, I didn't like what Hitler did to the Jews, but hey, I made a few more bucks this year.  Seriously?

All of them still all in?

First guy, I don't know.  I changed jobs and we haven't crossed paths in 2 years.  If I had to guess, yes.  Because of the conspiracy thing.  It wouldn't surprise me if he buys the notion that the Coronavirus was a plan by Democrats to bring about socialism.

The couple, yes, they are all in.  I just saw them a month ago after having not seen them in a year or so.

The general theme of Trump being amazing / him beating the impeachment was all they could talk about when not on the topic of our respective families.  If anything, they were more supportive.

My SIL got divorced because of Trump. Her hubby loves/loved him and she was fed up. Trump actually ruined her marriage.

Not surprising since he ruins his own marriages too.

Every presidential candidate should have to take a test in constitutional law. Trump woulda failed.

Actually, yes. He's in food and beverage production construction and due to the fact that many foreign engineers can't get into the US right now..

His business is actually doing much better under Trump. I was with him when Obama was in office too.

Congratulations at not knowing what you're talking about and making assumptions though.

I have doubts whether Trump has much impact on someone's business success, but if someone thinks he did, I could see where they would vote for him.

I bought a track light system for my basement 5 years ago.  I had grand visions of redoing things.... realized putting it up would require some electrical work so I let it sit... basement project stalled to because after seeing others hit with floods and water I figured pumping $5K into making my basement really nice wasn't worth it.  I always wanted a big basement and I have one now....  anyway.... the working from home thing meant I had to set up my office down here.  The light I was going to replace quit working so I put this light thing up finally... looking for a drill bit set.... I found 3 N95 masks that expire in February.  I bought them when I was taking down my ceiling, which I half finished... too much dust, etc.  That's how I roll.  I start something then decide it's not needed.... nobody but my son comes down here anyway.  E

So having a wife in health care she has her masks if she needs them.  The new rule at the hospital is basically anybody who's inside, employees only, has to wear one.  They get one per day.  Even  administrators.

Another story.  She's a therapist.  They're basically clearing everyone out of rehab to get it ready for patients who need it that are COVID.  Her and her partner are working with this guy.  They ask him if he lives alone.... he says "No, I live with my parents. "   "Are they healthy?"  These are questions designed to guage his therapeautic needs.  "Yeah... except my dad's in the hospital.  He has the corona virus."

Yeah.... just dropped that bomb in casual conversation.  So they notified his nurse.... they tested him.  He's positive.

My wife talked to the infectious disease doctor who said they should be fine.  They had PPE on and they never actually touched him.  They diligently wash their hands, etc.

But stuff like that makes you wonder how far this is.  THis is a guy who had it, was in the hospital anyway, and without that throwaway line, may never had gotten a positive match.  He was in there for other reasons and didn't think he needed to tell anyone else his dad had it.

That's just effin' scary.  I hope you all are okay.

Honestly, me too. But if I made 20% more, I'd probably be more likely to make the same conclusion.

I'd take a 50% salary cut right now for the sake of this country if it meant getting rid of the scourge of Trump.

And that's actually an understatement.  I'd actually quit my job, give up my professional license, and give up everything I own and vow to start from scratch.

This man is actively dismantling our economy and our constitutional democracy.  The damage he is doing to this country will last decades.

I have never felt like a president had any significant impact at all on my success or lack thereof.  I can wrap my head around the concept of someone voting to keep the status quo if things are going well for them.  I couldn't do that with Trump, but I get the idea.

Congratulations for being with someone so stupid he doesn't know the difference between correlation and causation.
