Quite a topsy turvey season.  How'd Michigan and Ohio State go from the top of the national rankings to the bottom of the Big Ten in the same season?

Well, OK, I know about OSU.  Those victories over Cincinnati and North Carolina aren't as hefty as they seemed at the time.  The Buckeyes have also regressed back to Caleb Wesson (if he isn't in foul trouble) and 4 other guys.

Baylor, San Diego State, Florida State, Dayton....  These are schools currently in the top ten.  But I suppose with the way this season has gone, give it a week or two and they could be replaced by Rutgers, Penn State, Houston, Colorado.

Yeah, that's not a good look.  I've heard commentary about why try to steal, why block the shot,.....  These kids are trying to get playing time, and if the opponent isn't backing down, then why would they back down?  It'll be interesting to see how each school and the conference handles this.

The rematch is on February 29.

and how many times have you heard a coach say - "I don't care if we are losing, play the whole game, try to go out on a high note - do something positive to take into the next game" etc., etc.

The steal was kind of crappy.  At that point Kansas had given up, walked the ball to half court then to the sideline to let the clock run out.  In that situation you always let the clock run out without trying to steal it.  Up 20+ Kansas would have got crapped on if they had broken the press and tossed a lob.

I get playing 40 minutes, but not when the team bashing your head in lets up and shows mercy.  Be classy and don't go for the show off steal and try to embarrass them.

I don't know, this is an NCAA game we're talking about between rivals.  This isn't a mismatched high school game or something like that.

Game ending fight not included, I'm not sure what Kansas State could have done to Kansas in that situation that would have embarrassed Kansas aside from mount a 20-0 run in 20 seconds.

Normal course of the game it would have bothered me.  But in this situation it's perfect. Sometimes you have to let a ***** know he's a *****.

Big game tonight in AA.  Both teams were ranked unexpectedly high and have subsequently fallen back to reality.  This one might go a ways to determine who plays and who rests on day 1 of the conference tournament, and that may in turn affect which side of the bubble both find themselves on.

There is no joy in Treeville.

How about Penn State's basketball program?  is this a blip on the radar or did it just take a long while to gain traction in the right direction because, let's be honest, basketball at Penn State?

I thought this stuff only happens in Columbus?

Michigan's Zavier Simpson crashed car belonging to athletic director's wife before suspension

Michigan basketball's senior point guard crashed the car of the athletic director's wife right before his suspension last week.

Zavier Simpson was given a civil infraction Wednesday for speeding too fast for conditions on Jan. 26, Ann Arbor police Sgt. Bill Clock said.

The 22-year-old from Ohio and the Wolverines had suffered a 64-62 loss to Illinois hours before police were called to a vehicle crashed at Hill Street and South Forest Avenue in Ann Arbor.

Police found a vehicle crashed into a pole, possibly a sign for a bike lane, in the early morning hours about 3 a.m..

They found the car with no driver, but Simpson and another person walked up.

Michigan Wolverines guard Zavier Simpson (3) drives againstAppalachian State Mountaineers forward James Lewis Jr. (21) during first half action Tuesday, November 5, 2019 at the Crisler Center in Ann Arbor, Mich.
Simpson initially gave police a false name and denied involvement in the crash.

“They figured it out – didn’t take long,” Clock said of Simpson’s identity.

Police tracked down the owner of the vehicle, Chrislan Manuel, who is married to Michigan athletic director Warde Manuel.

Officers were able to determine through Chrislan Manuel and her son, Evan Manuel, that Simpson was the driver. Evan Manuel is a student manager for the basketball team.

Simpson did not smell of intoxicants, Clock said. The student-athlete told police the car slipped on ice before striking the pole. The car was towed from the scene. The crash was initially listed as a hit-and-run incident, Clock said.

Though civil infractions are normally handed out a bit more quickly, the need to verify Simpson as the driver slowed the investigation.

The basketball team announced the one-game suspension of their multi-year captain for violating team policies on Jan. 27.

In a statement at the time, Michigan coach Juwan Howard said the matter would be handled appropriately within the program.

"While we are disappointed with what has transpired with Zavier, we know there are always lessons to learn and grow from," he said, according to the statement. "We take these matters and consequences very seriously."

Simpson returned from his suspension on Feb. 1 during a home win over Rutgers.

Penn State is in the top ten.  North Carolina wouldn't even get an invite to the NIT right now.

These are wacky times.

Looking at some advanced rankings like Kenpom and currently 11 big ten teams are ranked in the top 32.  That is just insane depth.  They may not have any truely elite teams but I've never seen a conference have depth like that.

I may be in the minority on this, but I hate it when a regular season champion in a one bid league gets upset in the conference tourney.  Wright State (15-3, 1st) was upset by Illinois-Chicago (10-8, 5th) in the Horizon League final.  In the Southern, Eastern Tennessee (16-2, 1st) defeated Wofford (8-10, 7th) for that league bid.

Ohio’s governor has restricted attendance to all upcoming indoor Ohio state playoff events.  (I predict he shuts down schools for two weeks with most coming up on a week of spring break, but that remains to be seen.)

The MAC has announced attendance restrictions for the tourney in Cleveland.

First four in Dayton next week.  First and second round games in Cleveland next weekend.  Could be interesting.
