2020 NBA Trade Deadline

Recommended Posts

Hey guys....the rebuild is here. Tons of cap space hopefully means accepting a bad contract with an asset attached.

Can we finally stop with the "there is no path forward" talk for this team now?

The Pistons have a young roster, what will likely be a top 5 draft pick, a ton of cap space and a front office that is outright saying they are in a rebuild.

Oh, and Gores agreed to trade Drummond - something some said would simply never happen.

DETROIT PISTONS

BIG MOVE: C Andre Drummond to Cleveland for F John Henson, G Brandon Knight, 2023 second-round pick

LITTLE MOVE: None

OVERALL: Consider me underwhelmed by this haul, even as I accept that the Pistons had to get off of Drummond’s 2020-21 salary any way they could. It doesn’t help them fill seats in their still-vastly empty new building the rest of this season, but Detroit now becomes this year’s Atlanta – the repository for any and all this summer looking to dump a veteran contract or two. Still, I’m surprised the Pistons held onto Derrick Rose, who’s on a great contract and could have brought back some assets from a contender.

I don't get why everybody is crapping on the return, for weeks everybody said the Pistons need to just get rid of him at all costs, then when they do they question why they didn't get more.  I mean if you were in charge of a team would you give up assets for him?

i wouldnt have traded him for less than a first rounder, but i can see why they did it.

I read a good point today about how the trade return was the 2nd-rounder but mostly whoever they spend the 28mm on this summer.  So, really it's still TBD.  Of course we know it freed up cap space, but when the space is replaced by names, the tangible return will be complete, and hopefully to the positive.
