Don't forget Mike O'Connell

never forget the time O'connell scored into our empty net on  another teams  delayed penalty. We pulled the goalie and he backhanded a pass into our net.

Where in the world is Michael Rasmussen?

i think we will come to learn that many of the 'prospects' that Holland claimed at the end really aren't very good.

Rasmussen was off to a decent point per game start through 10 games in Grand Rapids this year then, poof, out of the lineup almost 2 months ago. Never really a word on what the injury was, always had the impression that it was day to day or week to week at worst. Yet here we are. Concussion?

iirc, werent most people unhappy that they took rasmussen?

most of his production was on the power play...not on 5v5. It's been about the same when he's in the majors.

He has been out since November with a lower body injury.

2017 was a really weak draft. Only 3 first rounders taken below Rasmussen have played more than his 62 NHL games - #20 Thomas with 97, #21 Chytil with 105 and #29 Jokiharju with 70.  No first rounder taken outside of the top 5 has really made an impact yet. #1 Hischier is OK but a below average #1 overall. #2 Nolan Patrick put up pedestrian numbers his first couple of years and has been out since May with an injury. The steal of the draft is #5 Elias Petterson of Vancouver. #4 Makar is performing to expectations too. Otherwise, pretty bleak.

Mildly surprised Kaski is on the move after less than a season with the team but probably not a big loss.  I wonder if there was some sort of hand shake agreement that the Wings would move him if he wasn't in Detroit at a certain date.  Or he was just frustrated that Holland signed him and Yzerman stuck him in GR (where he hasn't been anything special).

Never heard of Wood before... seems to be a young (23), solid-ish AHL defenseman (43 and 35 points in his most healthy seasons in the AHL) who is freaking enormous (6'7'').  Was a third round pick in 2014.  He makes slightly less than Kaski ($700,000 vs. $925,000) and both players are are RFA next season.

So Detroit got a younger player by one year who is slightly cheaper to play some AHL minutes, plan the parade!

Helm has actually scored on a breakaway! Can the Wings give us a 2nd miracle in one night by winning a game?! 2-0 over Winnipeg after 1.

Big night for Zadina

They still looked like they spent the last 10 minutes hanging on for dear life. The penalty was almost a relief as they could just ice the puck. Is it my imagination or do the Wings collapse tighter on 5 on 5 defense than anyone? It just seems they leave the opposition uncontested between the tops of the circles and the blue line - so they have a really hard time getting back possession even when there are loose pucks floating around. This team is too young to be too slow to challenge in space - but they don't seem to be able to.

Best empty net goal ever?

Best one I can remember seeing, though bank shots are pretty special when they go in also.

Fabbri now has many goals (8) for the Wings this season as Larkin and 3 more than AA. He's played roughly half as many games (16) for the Wings this season as the two of them. Not sure whether that's good news or bad news.

It's a challenge.

To AA and Larkin: "Top that!"

I would call it good news for the potential development of an effective 2nd line. Zadina and Fabbri look good together... who's the best Center for them long-term?
