Trevor Bauer seemed to know the Astros were cheating all along.  He also alleges that Verlander and a few other Astros pitchers suddenly improved their spin rates through various cheating methods.  I think I believe him.  So much for Mr. Integrity Verlander.

More scuttlebutt that the Astros also used a buzzer system where the hitters had one attached to their pec area....

Well that is the weird thing, the way players come and go something like this has to eventually leak out if the whole team knows, so you might think there would be motivation for the org to keep it in a small circle of hitters that they expect will be with the team for some time, but that doesn't seem to be the case as Fiers' knowledge shows.

The best JV can do is say "I knew about. I didn't like it. But it was my team and this came from my management and I couldn't throw my teammates under the bus over it"

Now none of that may be true - but that is still the best thing he can say! xD

I've been on a lot of teams, mostly baseball teams -- some of which bent the rules on occasion -- and the idea that the hitters (and the spotters and bangers and others directly involved) knew about this but at least some of the rest of the players did not strikes me as ludicrous.

Everybody knows that the game was fixed

The  rest stay poor,  the Sox and Stros get rich

That's how it goes

Everybody knows.

(With apologies to Leonard Cohen)

You don't have to apologize to Leonard. He'd be right there on this one.

Yeah, the video and postgame interview of altuve after he hit that walk off home run off Chapman is pretty interesting.

Someone reading his lips suggested he said “I’ve got a piece on” as he clutched his shirt and told his teammates not to remove his shirt as he was approaching home plate. Then when rosenthal asked about it, he said “oh I don’t know, it happened before and my wife wasn’t happy” or something along those lines.

I remember that.  It seemed like nothing at the time, although maybe the excuse seemed a little odd.  Now folks are looking for odd creases in jerseys?  Good grief.....

The thing that cracks me up about these kids of things....people can HEAR that they cheated, brush it off or maybe not be so upset, but as soon as some pics or video comes out...everyone losses their minds.

I am not 100% sure it happens here, but I would put a small wager on the Astros getting more punishment or the players or something after these pics/videos go viral over a weeks time or something.

Buzzer or not, it doesn't seem like it's any worse.  I mean if there's clear evidence of a buzzer I suppose you could say that you have a smoking gun that this particular player knew and actively participated in the cheating where there's a (very flimsy) defense that "sure... someone banged on a trash can while my client was at bat... but he didn't know why it was happened, and he certainly wouldn't have condoned or gone along with it if he had."

I think MLB has accepted that all the players all knew what was going on and all benefited, to some degree, from it.  They chose not to punish them directly for whatever reason.  Whether the message delivery was via audio signal or electronic vibration is sorta meaningless.

Does Verlander have a burner Twitter account? Kate Upton maybe?

https://www.detroitnews.com/story/sports/mlb/tigers/2020/01/21/twitter-account-defending-justin-verlander-houston-astros-scandal-burner/4531564002/

Find this part particularly interesting.

"Justin still is still a major advocate for a clean game," Jonathan12345 tweeted on Jan. 19. "He arrived and the system was in place. What was he supposed to do about it then? It’s hard to rat

our teammates and coaches."

Why would a random fan refer to the players and coaches as our?

Fake burners are a thing these days, too. But with regard to saying “our” that seems pretty clearly to be a typo of “out” as in “rat out.”

Funny how AJ Hinch didn't flat out deny the buzzer rumor.    If players were wearing wires and he knew about it - ban him for life.  And ban the players too.

The punishment was not nearly enough.  How about banning the Astros from having any access to replay monitors for 2 years?  If they were using them to cheat - then take them away.

Tony Clark whining about the Betts trade not going through fast enough.   Hey Tony - why should any team take an injured player just to make a trade happen fast.  Now the trade is off.    See, it was a RUMORED trade, it hadn't gone through.   Mookie's getting paid no matter where he is.............I don't think anyone is losing sleep over the stress of wondering if Mookie will be living in a California mansion or a Massachusetts mansion.     I typically support unions, but the MLBPA and UAW sure make it hard to do that.     By the way, go ahead and go on strike in a couple of years.  Our team here sucks anyway.  We won't miss it.

This is the first that I've heard of this kind of punishment.
