You're confusing need with "positions that could be upgraded."

They need defense. They don't need a #4 WR high or a backup QB (and the whole having a QB in waiting thing is so overblown its stupid. It rarely works)

And they usually only keep two quarterbacks and made a fairly big commitment to Daniel. Why draft someone you'll have to cut?

It’s kind of funny that we all go back and forth thinking we have smart, meaningful opinions about football when the reality is we are all morons for continuing to be Lions fans.

I did four different mock drafts tonight using FanSpeaks simulator and the Roto World big board for each draft. The first two drafts were what I would, one without trades and then one with trades. The second two drafts are based off of what I though Quinn and Patricia would do, with and without trades.

Draft #1: My Picks, No Trades

1st (#3): Isiah Simmons/S/LB, Clemson

2nd: Cesar Ruiz/C, Michigan

3rd: JK Dobbins/RB, Ohio State

3rd: Bryce Hall/CB, Virginia

4th: Darrell Taylor/Edge/DE, Tennessee

5th: KJ Hill/WR, Ohio State

5th: Jack Driscoll/OT, Auburn

6th: Lamar Jackson/CB, Nebraska

7th: Braden Mann/P, Texas A&M

Draft #2: My Picks, w/Trades

Trades made: Detroit #3 overall to Jacksonville for #9, #20 and a 4th round pick, Detroit 2nd (#3) to Houston for a 2nd (#8) and a 3rd round pick. Even in a draft simulator virtual Bill O'Brien sucks.

1st (#9 via Jacksonville): Javon Kinlaw/DT, South Carolina

1st (#20 via Jacksonville): Jaylon Johnson/CB, Utah

2nd (via Houston): Cesar Ruiz/C, Michigan

3rd: JK Dobbins/RB, Ohio State

3rd (via Houston): Lynn Bowden/WR, Kentucky

3rd: Alton Robinson/DE, Syracuse

4th: Jordyn Brooks/LB, Texas Tech

4th (via Jacksonville): Saahdiq Charles/OT, LSU

5th: KJ Hill/WR, Ohio State

5th: Ben Bredeson/OG, Auburn

6th: Lamar Jackson/CB, Nebraska

7th: Braden Mann/P, Texas A&M

Draft #3: Quinn/Patrica Picks, No Trades

1st (#3): Jeffery Okudah/CB, Ohio State

2nd: Cesar Ruiz/C, Michigan

3rd: Leki Fotu/DT, Utah

3rd: AJ Dillon/RB, Boston College

4th: Van Jefferson/WR, Florida

5th: Davon Hamilton/DT, Ohio State

5th: Jack Driscoll/OT, Auburn

6th: Lamar Jackson/CB, Nebraska

7th: Braden Mann/P, Texas A&M

Draft #4: Quinn/Patrica Picks, w/Trades

Trades made: Detroit #5 overall to Miami for #5, #26 and a 4th round pick, Detroit 2nd (#3) to Houston for a 2nd (#8) and a 3rd round pick. Even Quinn fleeces Bill O'Brien.

1st (#5 via Miami) Jeffery Okudah/CB, Ohio State

1st (#26 via Miami): Jedrick Wills/OT, Alabama

2nd (via Houston): Neville Gallimore/DT, Oklahoma

3rd: Lynn Bowden/WR, Kentucky

3rd (via Houston): AJ Dillion/RB, Boston College

3rd: Malik Harrison/LB, Ohio State

4th: Kenny Robinson/S, XFL Player

4th (Via Miami): Ben Bredeson/OG, Auburn

5th: Colby Parkinson/TE, Stanford

5th: Jack Driscoll/OT, Auburn

6th: Lamar Jackson/CB, Nebraska

7th: Braden Mann/P, Texas A&M

This PFF simulator thing is pretty fun (especially in make believe configuration) when you're stuck on a conference call.  Just bothered with 4 rounds.
