Anyone know how many Lion penalties on 3rd resulted in an automatic 1st down yesterday?Off hand, I remembered at least 4.

it seems like there have been a lot of those so far this season and they are most frustrating ones watching the game.  My wife always gets concerned when this happens since it’s usually accompanied by my yell and expletive.

The roughing the passer call against Flowers yesterday was hit garbage.  Ended up resulting in a TD.  That was the same drive as the Davis tackling penalty.

Officials in this league keep getting worse, partly because the rules are always changing.  But yeah, refs suck and they suck worse for teams who the league doesn’t favor.

The Lions winning a game that many on here felt was winnable wasn’t my point of objection with MBs pre game posts.

Carson Wentz sucks and the Lions are more talented than the Eagles takes were the ones I disagreed with the most.  I’m not sure anything that happened yesterday changed as the inured team that Philly played was down so many weapons.

By all means point out where I said Wentz sucks.

On the flip side, perhaps their greatest reason for success the past two weeks is that they have not given up a sack. Stafford has gotten the ball out quickly, and has demonstrated agility in the pocket.

Stafford has missed some throws, but he hasn't made many mistakes with his decision making.

He certainly is good enough to win with.

None bigger than short-arming it to Marvin Jones on 3rd and 8 with 3:30 remaining... after Bevell (Patricia???) called two runs into a stacked box.

But Stafford's TD pass to Jones was a thing of beauty... great touch, just lofted it up there where only Jones could run it down. And in the 3rd quarter, with their backs to the goal line, he threw a high dart to Jesse James, up in the stratosphere. Both really brilliant throws in high leverage situations.

Is he ever going to get that running game people have been talking about?

I seem to recall a 3rd down where he threw a sidearm strike to Jones with a safety coming free up the middle on the blitz.

Also a brilliant throw.

3 drives in the 4th quarter all in philly territory trying to ice the game. Run, run, pass and either punt or blocked fg. When they were actually trying to score and take the lead, they passed more on first down.

Patricia's end of 1st half disastrous clock management where he goes into half with two timeouts while Philly punts is just caveman nonsense.

Process>Results always.

The first half decision to not use time outs when there was like 50 seconds left and you had 2 to use sucks.  They were on their own 40 yard line or something.

Playing not to lose

Not playing to win....this IS a difference....a HUGE difference.

You rarely see the Patriots standing pat with a 10 point lead...they do not even stand pat with a 20 point lead...keep going at them.

We won, in the end that's all that matters.

I totally disagree.  They were up 10 and getting the ball back to start the 2nd half.   Smart move was to do what they did.

Maybe I’ll think otherwise after the Lions have won their 6th Super Bowl.

Yeah, Patricia seems to have this idea that his job as a head coach is to play "situational football," but he always thinks of it like a defensive coach -- slow the game down and keep points off of the board.

On the other hand, he was clearly game-planning against Philly's pass rush, even though the DL was depleted. And they didn't give up any sacks or turnovers, so, I give him that.

Let's hope that as he develops more of a rapport with Bevell, and Bevell develops more of a rapport with Stafford, they will be more aggressive with clock management.

Folks were complaining about this at the time. I rewound my DVR and it was 3rd down and 13 yards to go for Philly. Does any Lion fan really want to call time out to give the Eagles a chance for a hail mary? I agree, our coaches stink but I can't blame them for not calling time out to give Philly a chance for a miracle play, we've seen that movie before.

He did it a couple weeks ago also.  I get your concern, trust me I do.  We do not have all the info...maybe the offense was gassed or something.  Maybe Stafford had to go take a dump or something...who knows.

We won the game, that is the important thing, but I notice now that I am relatively apathetic towards the team...the times when they should put the gas to the floor or ease up.  It was not a huge deal IMO, but just a little something they could have used.

Philadelphia got the ball at their 24 with 57 seconds left. They had an incomplete on 1st and 10 and then ran out the clock. Best case scenario Detroit gets the ball with under 40 seconds and no timeouts on their own 25. That had a 10 point lead and were getting the ball back in the second half. Conversely, Philadelphia could have decided to throw down the field and go for a field goal like the Chargers did.

No problems with letting the clock run out on the first half.  They were on the road with a 10 point lead and getting the ball to start the second half.

The Lion coaches played it perfectly in that situation.

Seems like that helmet ripping facemask sorta favored the Lions

Can you imagine the outrage here if it were the other way around? And we lost by 3? Goodness.
