if we trade him, or anyone else, it should be to acquire positions of need that can help in the short term.  Nothing wrong with trading from depth, if we believe that we have that.

Why? Trade him for for young, high ceiling talent, even if it's a couple of years away. Easier to get high end talent if it's a few years away.

I don't think it's about winning today.  If we believe that some combination of Mize, Manning, Skubal, Wentz, Fulmer, Norris and Turnbull will anchor our staff for the next 5-7 years, I have no problem trading Boyd to get a position player(s) that we are sorely missing within the organization.  We are devoid of them and won't be able to solve completely through free agency.

“We are getting away from tearing down.” Al Avila's exact words.

Also, Gradenhire from the same article: "It’s time to win and show our fans we’re headed in the right direction."

If they are really getting away from the teardown and that it's time to win, they will not sell off their far-and-away best pitcher. If Avila sells off Boyd for raw power arms, however, that will give lie to both those statements.

I'm going by their words as a presage to their actions. If their subsequent actions belie those words, they'll be liars, That's all I mean to put across.

How do we ensure he does not escape responsibility?

By highlighting what he said if he sells off Boyd.

That's OK, I'll be here to remind you he said that if he sells off Boyd.

I can't muster strong negative feelings for the Astros and think most of the commentary involving the scandal is overstated and overwrought by a significant factor.

I can't either mostly because I think there are a lot of teams doing similar things.  They got caught and they got punished.  That's good enough for me for now.  Maybe come to an agreement that there will be more severe punishments for future offenders.

Seems to me like trading your best pitcher who can help you win today for a player who can help you win today is treading water. I honestly don;t see how it would help.

Beyond Boyd, who do we have as depth we could trade for players who can help us win today?

Boyd ismit. And we absolutely, positively, will trade him by the break. We need position guys.

You may be right. That would mean that tear down is not done.

We do need positions guys. If he doesn’t at least trade him for position guys, that would be flat out GM malpractice. And remember what this guy’s got back in trade for All-Stars and future Hall of Famers.

The thing is they can improve by 50% and still be a 90 loss team!

I think it just depends on how you define tear down. Trading guys with low trade value/expiring contracts would be tear down moves. Trading for guys in A ball would seem like a tear down move. Trading a guy like Boyd for a young major leaguer or a higher level prospect (such as a paredes type right now) wouldn’t feel like a tear down move to me.

There is no doubt that the strength of the 2021-23 tigers will be pitching, so trading from that strength to address other immediate needs seems more like a building move that a tear down move.

Boyd might still be worth more in trade than as a piece to build a club around. By all appearances, with or without Boyd, the 2022 and 2023 Tigers look like a solid pitching team. Players like Turnbull, Norris, and Boyd will all be on the trading block someday.

I have no problem with the number of games. I would prefer more double headers so playoff games don't end up playing in the cold.

Yes. Five or six double headers and change the AS break back to 3 days. 25 week season. Season would end on Sept 22nd.

With respect to the World Series, why not play it in a warm neutral sight, like Arizona or San Juan Puerto Rico? That would solve playing in cold weather and give MLB fans to travel like NFL fans.

Not if he's the pitcher we saw in September. And August.

He misses bats. If you can do that the other stuff will come out in the wash.

Yes, because that’s the same thing.

You really want to reward professional teams scraping around .500 with a playoff spot?

But hey, won't it be cool when a 79-83 team goes on an October run and rides a few lucky bounces to a ring and a parade? Won't that be magic? Cinderella, baby.

Uh........ nope.  Don't want that at all.  Don't want to see an 83 win team beat a 103 win team, either.

Can we get all of the annual weather discussions out of the way now?

3"-5" or 4"-6" of snow tomorrow night.  Can't wait.

Manfred's a pimp.... he never could have outfought Santino. But I never knew until today that it was Selig all along

In other news, Jeff Larish, Rob Fick, Eric Munson and Chris Shelton have reported early and are taking grounders at third.  The early reviews are promising: "moves well for a big man, has soft hands and a strong, accurate arm".

Sure, why not? Life’s too short to worry about “baseball” being some pure institution in which only the very best are bestowed the glory of postseason participation. I couldn’t care less whether an 84 win team ultimately wins the World Series from time to time.

OK, why not just let everybody into the playoffs?

How is making a trade to improve your team part of a tear down?  Good teams make trades every day .
