CC Sabathia vs Spencer Turnbull

I'm afraid we used up all our series runs on Tuesday

Nah, they'll win this series and lose 3 of 4 to Baltimore, because baseball.

Sgt. Bilko, the TV series starting Phil Silvers, was pretty funny.  I just watched It's a Mad Mad Mad Mad World last week, Phil Silvers is in it playing basically the same character as Sgt. Bilko but in civilian clothes.

Bilko was a nice fella....strong... but a little slow.  They didn't know about that kind of thing back then.  He carried the bat bag.  One handed.  He might have been a better hitter if he used one of those bats but he insisted on the mop handle.  He liked the mop handle because he would mop the floors of the local grocery store in the off season.  He slept with it.

In 1953, Steve Bilko led the NL in KO's with 125.  At the time it was only 8 short of the NL record which was held by Vince DiMaggio at 134.

Fun fact:  On June 10, 1033 .. Lefty Grove of the Philadelphia A's pitched a 9-inning complete game 9-5 victory against Red Ruffing of the New York Giants.  In that game .. Lefty Grove KO'd 4 Yankee batters ..but he himself was KO'd 5 times by Yankee pitchers.

Where was the game held back in 1033?

In England shortly before the Norman Invasion in 1066.

2nd small note: Ruffing was with the Yankees in 1933. He never pitched for the Giants.

Never let the facts get in the way of a good story.

Who among us can honestly claim he hasn't been mistaken for the Dalai Lama?

Fun fact: The Lama was a big hitter until Lloyd got a hold of him.

Da’Lama was clutch as a switch hitter.

Yeah, that was a great league, but everyone thought it was pretentious that the Avalon team insisted on calling themselves the Avalon Angels of Los Angeles.

The Dalai Lama‘s brother Tony Lama came to the United States and has done great in the cowboy boots business.

They thought it pretentious because it clearly was.

What does the patch/logo say on the right hand side of the Tiger's hat?

Not the New Era logo - the other side.

Boyd's collapse is so disheartening.  I mean even if for some reason he is dominant the first half next season I'd imagine teams would still be apprehensive about giving up anything good for him in fears of him never putting together a complete season.

So for better or worse it looks like we are either stuck with him or are going to have to trade him for far less than we originally hoped for.

I loved Phil Silvers in Top Cat.
