Are you done with Harbaugh yet?

Recommended Posts

The Athletic is reporting that Harbaugh has indeed signed the 5 year contract.

Sounds like it's official cause a number of different outlets on Twitter are confirming it.

How does he spin the 50% pay cut?  He did it for the university in these rough times?

To be fair, didn't quite a few college coaches do this? It's not the full story, but also partially true.

What a joke! They cut his contract in half because why? Because he's half as good as they as the University and we all thought he was. I wonder what the incentives are in the contract? Beat Ohio State? Win a Big Ten title? Make a college football playoff?

So did the school resign him cause they genuinely believe in him or did they do it so they could get a low buyout and are planning on cutting bait the first chance they get?

do I read that right as only a total of 6 million to buy him out after the 1st yr? . Does that mean he is only guaranteed 10 million starting today, or 10 plus for 8 was owed for next season under the last contract. Either way that is a relatively small addition to what  they were already on the hook for for next yr. The U clearly got what they wanted- which is limited financial liability if he doesn't turn it around quickly.

sort of a "throw your hands up in the air" move by michigan.

with no other credible likely alternatives, they turn back to harbaugh with a contract that will be much easier to terminate or buyout when more credible alternatives appear.

I would at least like to know if a serious effort was made and a serious conversation was had by someone in Schembechler Hall and Luke Fickell. You can laugh at the idea of Fickell all you want and call it a fantasy, but Warde Manuel is not doing his job if he or a representative of the University didn't reach out and have a discussion with Fickell. He's the perfect fit for Michigan as he knows how to recruit in the state of Ohio, in the midwest, and like Ohio State does. Furthermore, as evidenced by his remarkable job at Cincinnati, he can develop and get the most out of his players in practice and on gameday. He seems to be a solid X's and O's coach as well, not making on-game coaching errors or having clock management issues.

Laugh at the idea all you want and say it will never happen, but Fickell is the perfect fit for Michigan.

University of Michigan Athletic Director Warde Manuel announced Friday that Jim Harbaugh, the J. Ira and Nicki Harris Family Head Football Coach, has reached an agreement on a contract extension that runs through the 2025 football season. Harbaugh has signed a four-year extension with revised financial terms effective Jan. 11, 2021

If it's safe to put together this announcement (that yr 5 of this deal is 2025) with Angelique's 5 yr chart, it means that yr1 of this contract is this year, not next year - he has been 'extended' but the 8 million they owed him for 2021 under his old deal has been voided out.

So I would say this is pretty much all about the Benjamins. They bought him some recruiting leverage - he can tell a recruit he is signed for 5 yrs, but they added almost nothing to their financial commitment to him. From the University's standpoint, they got a coach for next yr while committing only $2mil in new money, which is probably at least $20mil less than they would have had to commit to buy out Harbaugh and sign someone new.

I am not a ticker holder anymore so I don't know what if anything they have done to take the temperature of the customer base but I'm guessing they are not forecasting enough shrinkage to feel they they could have done any better for the bottom line right now.

Has a player ever walked on campus with more riding on their shoulders than JJ McCarthy?

I'm excited about the coming cuts to ticket prices.

they were shoveling out free tickets internally around the U in Hoke's last season - to the point where Staff/Faculty season ticket holders were grumbling about having paid for what they were now being offered for free. :devious:

LOL - I was just going to post that if no one in the B10 can get close to OSU and OSU is still that far away from Alabama, then it's just as well they kept Harbaugh and saved the dough.
