Could the tigers have traded Fulmer for Javier Baez in '17?

This article seems to think so. I don't remember hearing anything about Bregman being a possible trade option. I'm not sure how much stock to put in this writing, but if it's true it's a real shame that Detroit didn't pull the trigger on that.

Avila misses the boat again.  I read that he could have traded Fulmer for Mike Trout and Ohtani.

I heard he also could have had *Aaron* Judge and Mookie Betts for Fulmer in a three way deal.

Mike Judge would have been a good get as well.  He funny.

This isn't the forum for that kind of talk.

He could have traded Fulmer for a time machine that would allow him to go back in time to kill Hitler...but he held out for a class A RH with a big arm and control issues.  That ended the trade discussions

Baez was a very highly thought of prospect whose shine wore off a bit after a slow start to his career.  I am assuming that is when the Cubs offered him up.   Why would the Tigers trade a young All-Star under control for a former, underachieving, prospect?   Obviously worked out well for the Cubs but I doubt any General Manager would have made that trade.

I don't get why the media (and many fans) can't let this go.  Teams don't trade young guys under control who have already performed at a high level in the major leagues.  It just doesn't make sense for the buyer or the seller.

I remember when they could have traded Justin Verlander for Jake Rogers, Daz Cameron, and Franklin Perez.

Oh ....wait!

I remember when they traded Jim Bunning for Don Demeter.  But I was all in when they got Rocky Colavito for Harvey Kuenn.

I remember when the Tigers used to trade major league players for major league players. Not major league players for prospects.

Right. Team’s don’t want to pay major league salaries. They want major league performance for the minimum.

Fans have these kinds of conversations when the team is 53 games under .500 on September 1st.

Why would Avila trade for either Baez or Bregman when McClendon would just inevitably ruin them?  Gosh, you people really are morans.

Al Cowens for Jason Thompson, Dan Schatzeder for Ron LeFlore.  Both regrettable.

Ben Oglivie for Jim Slaton.    G2 approved at the time.  ?

For me...Schatzeder for LeFlore is close to a wash.  Ronnie had one OK year in MTL  (98 OPS+) and was allowed to walk as a FA.  Schatzeder had one full year as a SP...was 11-13 with an ERA of 4.00 which was right around the league average.  LeFlore did lead the league in steals...but he also formed a doper nexus with Bill Lee thatg likely cost the Expos a game or two

Jim Bunning wanted to get paid or he was going to make noise about it and the Tigers weren't having any. If it had come to it, they probably would have take a bag of batting practice balls to be rid of him. Ironic and kind of funny how in the end when Bunning achieved a position of authority he turned out to be pretty colossal jerk himself.
