The 2020 Presidential Race

Recommended Posts

I guess even Lindsey Graham recently said he wouldn't vote on this recently................... Collins, Graham, Murkowski, Romney................At least I hope they have a spine here.   With Collins and Graham saying this recently, it sounds like they knew RBG wasn't going to make it.

If Biden wins (and I think this actually helps Biden) and McConnell is still in charge of the Senate, how is he going to block a vote with a new President?   What excuse will he use?

Voters, apparently.

Are they voters if they didn't vote? These not voters got what they deserve. Shame the rest of us have to suffer.

My larger point is losing to Trump required a really unpopular candidate paired off against him, and the Democrats obliged.

She lost because she didn't drive turnout.

You can blame it on the Bernie Bros., and there is a case there, don't get me wrong.

But it mostly had to do with her unlikability with a wide swath of Americans.

I was talking to my mom and she said Lindsey Graham too.    He's in a very close race.  I think he needs more than just Trump supporters.

Why do moderate Republicans not want another conservative justice?

Just to **** Trump off?

On the off chance Democrats will appreciate the gesture and work in good faith with them in the future?

I'm thinking now that if they wait until after the election to vote, it will be safe for likes the Collins to vote on a justice. She won't be needing to run for re-election if she wins, and if she loses, she has nothing to lose at that point.

Some of them like Collins are facing re-election. They are the only ones we have hope for.

But does not supporting adding a conservative justice help them at the ballot box on net?

Especially a vanilla conservative justice?

Who cares? One of either Hillary or Trump were going to win. If people wanted a better candidate, they should have turned out for Bernie Sanders then.

Bernie Sanders was a worse candidate.

Biden would have been a better candidate than Hillary.  But Hillary was - based on her resume -  a really good candidate.

Who really was decisive to a large percentage of Americans.  She polled as unlikable as Trump, and that was no mean feat.

Probably not in Maine. The biggest reason Collins is in trouble is for voting for a conservative justice. Voters will also look at the hypocrisy. This is only going to be in a states that may be blue such as Maine, Colorado, North Carolina, Arizona.

Republicans should want another conservative justice, be they self proclaimed moderates or not.

If you're a Republican, this is your chance to put a stranglehold on the judiciary and make sure that not only are potential civil rights excesses of the left are checked for the next 30 years, but that your pro-business agenda is furthered for the next generation.

Well, ON PAPER she was a great candidate.  Senator.  Secretary of State.  She had every credential to be President.

But she was a woman who dared to try to have a role as first lady outside of baking cookies and staring lovingly at her husband, and America hated her for it.

Yeah, a red senator in tight race in a blue or purple state, I can see the potential benefit of taking such stance, but there is the risk it pisses off Trumpy voters that were going to vote for her.

She also was not a particularly good orator.

Thats not who she needs to win over to win re-election.  She needs moderates and independents.

That is how I see it as well.

This opportunity is a wet dream, especially given long-term demographic shifts in the country do not favor republicans.

Collins is in trouble for supporting Trump - but not supporting him enough, not for backing Kavanuagh.

Her words justifying her support of Trump - that he's somehow "learned his lesson" ring hollow and fake to anyone who has been paying attention.

Maine is also a weird state.  You have 1/2 the state as liberal Massachusetts transplants and the other half as complete Trump loving bumpkins.  Collins is caught in the middle because the liberals hate her as a Trump *** kisser and the conservatives hate her as not kissing his *** enough.

She has no chance.  She's done.
