The 2020 Presidential Race

You can't put this on any plane of existence with Trump's daily shambolympics.

A reasonable person can't. But a lot of this country is not reasonable. Biden has a ton of video footage of him saying dumb stuff, and I imagine he will continue to do this throughout the campaign. That leaves him vulnerable.

You mean the crowd that will be voting for Trump regardless?

Trump versus Biden is going to so much fun.  All summer and fall, we are going to be watching too old men yelling at each other calling each other stupid.

I'm still trying to figure out how Donald Trump, the guy who says stuff that is offensive to over half of Americans multiple times every single day, is going to be able to make hay out the occasional Joe Biden gaffe.

Because it's a double standard. But not necessarily a bad one. The Trump voter doesn't hold their leader to any standard of elocution, accuracy, cultural awareness, decency or gravitas. The people that want to replace Trump want to replace him for among many reasons, because they want someone who does speak well and accurately,  with cultural awareness and with decency and gravitas. So of course it is a double standard - it has to be. The only question is what level of disqualification Biden's gaffes eventually reach..

I was struggling with this earlier.  Perhaps a similar point: the discerning jazz listener can tell when the speaker wires are reverse polarized and the sax player is off tonight.  The gourmand can tell when the cook put too much spice in.

But if its all outlaw country and Walmart brand mac and cheese, then who gives a rats ***?

I figured when I showed up here today I would hear "But Trump does way worse" and this is just "crazy old joe being crazy old joe".  And predictably, that's what I saw when I got here. You guys spend two + years calling Trump a racist, and to get there, you have to split hairs to the nth degree. Yet when Joe comes right out and SPEAKS racist, you shift into "explain it away" mode....."it's not that bad, he's just an old dude, he's a gaffe machine", etc. etc. Basically the standard hypocrisy model employed on a regular basis by certain posters.

Quite honestly, It's hard to imagine a bigger gift to Trump than Hillary was. But increasingly, it appears that Biden could be Hillary Part II....or even better. I mean, we're 14 months out and you all are already referring to him as akin to Reagan's second term. While I disagree that Reagan was as out of it as you all think, that's just a spectacular analogy for the candidate you're pinning your hopes on.

I'll try to keep all this quiet so as not to alert the DNC.

I guess my point is that, should Biden be the nominee, Donald Trump may not have the standing with the majority of Americans to successfully be able to 'make hay' out of Biden's gaffes.

It's very well possible the same holds true with how he would attack Warren, fwiw. I just think people automatically assume some genius to Trump's strategy when it's not clear that said strategy can or will be successful

No, I just think biden will flat out suck. He's never done anything as a candidate for president. And now he's 21 years older than the last time he ran, running against a guy that out-campaigned the last nominee. Ran circles around her, in fact.

It's the perfect storm. Progressives will hate him. Trump will out campaign him. And Joe will need a nap.

Do you mean like when he put the letter "C" on apartment applications for POC so he could illegally exclude them from his apartments/ condos/ etc?

Or when he broomed his AA employees out of his casinos because racists asked him to?

Bunch of progressive comedians watch a clip of Rogan where an NYC editor doesn't like Gabbard, but doesn't appear to know a bunch about her either.  The NYC editor is (gasp!) a moderate democrat, and says she's afraid the Dems will do what the Rep's did and make a giant mistake by not putting up someone that can speak to the independent voters.

She's mocked by the comedians.  If you have a few minutes to spare, you'd probably like at least the beginning of it.  There were some funny comments....granted, wrong comments IMO, but funny nonetheless.

They are roughly the same age as Matthau, and older than Lemmon was during that movie.

I completely disagree.  I think Biden is the dems best chance.  Progressives may hate him, but assuming the progressives don't eat themselves and the party, their hate for Trump will trump the fact they don't have a progressive candidate and the progressive base will still be energized still.

Independent minded folks that chose to vote for Trump didn't care about gaffe's.

Biden also reminds folks of Obama.  I think that's a big bonus for him.

I'll add that I am part of the reason why Trump is here.  I couldn't vote for him, but I didn't want to vote for Hillary either.  In hindsight, while I really wish a libertarian would have gotten 5% of the vote, as that didn't happen, I regret the outcome.

When 2020 comes, I can easily look back if there is a moderate running for the dems and choose them.  If a progressive gets the nomination, I might seriously look at a 3rd party again and hope for a 5% outcome for the long term.

I wouldn't worry about a progressive DEM because they won't be able to make the country into anything that would worry you without a cooperative senate and even if things fall into place for the dems to take the Senate the majority wouldn't be big enough for them to put through any major agenda.  There'd be some D's who are either moderate or in moderate states that wouldn't go for anything radical.

I like how things like health care for everyone that every developed nation in the world provides is radical.

The oligarchs and their associates profiting from the American health care system will resist any change to the system.

I think a public option will the ultimate outcome.
