The closest a Democrat came to winning a house seat in West Virginia was 26 points. #BlueWaveWV

I'd be interested to hear the reaction to this from someone who's arguing that there's a forthcoming blue wave in West Virginia.

Why does Joe Manchin have to start a beef with AOC by calling her out in this tweet? Oh wait, he didn't.

Was he trying to distance himself from her?

I'd be interested to see the tweet where Manchin referenced AOC directly.

I know it's totally dishonest that someone would claim that tweet was him "clearly trying to distance himself from AOC".  He didn't even mention her!

the good news though is that Biden doesn't need Manchin or the senate.  He can declare a state of emergency and expand the court and also defund the police.

So the tweet says "alleges with evidence" but the article says this:

The lawsuit filed Thursday in U.S. District Court in Green Bay seeks to change the outcome of Wisconsin's election to President Donald Trump's favor by excluding the presidential votes from the counties in the state's final election certification, alleging without evidence that absentee voting is fraught with widespread fraud.

The plaintiffs allege voters in these counties may have bypassed state law requiring voters to provide photo identification by dubbing themselves "indefinitely confined" due to the coronavirus pandemic. The suit also takes issue with clerks' ability to take corrective actions to remedy errors related to witness’s addresses on absentee ballots.

Been watching some of Fox News this week.  Very curious about their response.  I've seen enough clips of Tucker, Hannity and Ingram, but had never sat in for the whole thing.  Watching these shows for their entirety?  What a trip. And earlier in the day on fox?  the white house press secretary was on fox news deferring questions to the white house.  Amazing.

I read the interview, aside from the quote already posted about 'defund' there was also this:

Quote

He also went after the socialist wing of the party for demanding "Medicare for all."

"****, we're not able to take care of the Medicare for some that have earned it. I said, Christ, you want Medicare for all, you'd better take care of the some you already owe it to,” he said. “Next of all, let's work and clean up the Affordable Care Act. Let's get some Republicans to help us truly get a good healthcare bill. Some people want to know what we stand for, these are the things we've always stood for,” he said.

As far as I saw he never mentioned any other Dem by name other than Schumer - which was just to say he had a tough job. The words 'socialist wing' are not  Manchin's here but the writer's. So if AOC took particular umbrage I would have to say it was because she was looking for it.

I think he was trying to distance himself from a group of politicians/policies of which she is a member/proponent.

However others argued he was "clearly trying to distance himself from AOC" previously, hence my question for clarification.   That was a very contradictory assertion given other statements this poster made about the tweet.

So what you're saying is Manchin did not start a Twitter beef with AOC?

Another point to be had, for everyone complaining progressives cost or hurt Democrats chances in the Senate, you can actually partially blame Obama and Senate Democrats in 2010 for that one. They had every opportunity for two years to make Washington DC a state, something progressives wanted to do, but either out of stupidity or just being too politically afraid, they didn't. Had D.C. become a state when Democrats had the chance to do it in 2009 and 2010 a lot of this debate is largely moot.

I largely agree but I am also OK with the things that they did choose to do in the first 2 years.   They had to do a stimulus package, and they did Obamacare.   I know it would be way cooler if Obamacare were Medicare for All, but I do think it has been extremely important to millions of people's health, so it's no slouch on the 20/20 hindsight look at the priority list.    I think you could definitely argue that DC Statehood would have been extremely impactful and legitimately something that should have been high on the list.

Yes.   But please, don't go out of the way to inform yourself.

I'm betting AOC's played better in Philly, Detroit, etc.

I'm betting no one who voted for Trump was convinced into it by AOC. They were already leaning in that direction and wouldve voted Trump anyways.
