Thats a whole other issue... the antisemitism card couldn't be played on Bernie because he's Jewish but it definitely was attempted by the media!

They don't like what she is offering and they voted for Republicans. Guess that really worked out well for Democrats?

She was on the ticket for WV? Or did they not like what Biden was offering? Did Biden offer anything except not being Trump?

I guess I don't see what it gets her beside burnishing her virtue signalling credentials. Run in your district on what works in your district and go fight for it on the floor of the House, but what is the point of aiming your fire at people at least half on your side when there are so many that are full on the other side? I don't expect people in the same party on the opposite ends of the political spectrum to agree or even not to argue, but to criticise each other in a way that could make it harder to win re-election crosses the line to me.

Of course in Manchin's case, AOC's opprobrium might actually be helpful electorially--  but speaking generally.......

Maybe she doesn't see Manchin as being on her side, at least on what she believes is the really important stuff like women's choice, firearms policy, energy policy and the like.

To your point, it might even help him a little if the West Virginia voters think of him as being anti-AOC, or at least on her bad side. I don't believe AOC's side-eye is going to drive them away from Manchin into the arms of a QAnon Republican.

throw shade at the republicans, not fellow democrats.

I know two Republican senators in Georgia she can throw shade at. My guess is she would do it to Ossoff or Warnock because they aren't pure enough.

Wonderful, so whats the problem here? Why not have better messaging instead of letting cranky conservatives dictate it? Something the Labour Party has also struggled with.

I know you're calling Manchin a Republican but Manchin voted to save Obamacare, impeach Trump, and against Amy Coney Barrett's confirmation. Capito did none of those things. Manchin isn't going to support Medicare for all or the Green New Deal, but neither is Capito.

Exactly.... people complain about Manchin, but if we had a few more of him, Mitch would be on the sidelines.

I think you're misunderstanding the whole situation. AOC actually has raised quite a bit of money for these races. Why not start holding Democrats accountable to be Democrats? Stop offering people watered down GOP policies rooted in Clintonian economics.

My state passed $15/hr minimum wage with 60%. Both Dems and GOP voters clearly had an impact and voted for it. Embrace the base. There's a whole out there who will vote for Dems if they offer something tangible and popular.

I like AOC.  I don't think she will ever do well nationally without moderating a bit, but she represents the left wing of the party well.  She is one of the only congresspeople to whom  I can stand to listen.

Was Jeremy Corbyn considered too far left for the UK or did the antisemitism allegations sink him?

I’m seeing this meme on FB.

Did Trump actually tweet this? And credit OANN as the source?

Is he ******* kidding??? And no GOP person is going to call him on this incredulous lie?

WTF.

Just W.T.F?

why do you think florida voted for a $15 minimum wage increase AND donald trump?

i think your instincts are correct on the democrats and moving on economics, but i also think democrats are losing for other reasons like social issues.  and aoc is a lightning rod for republicans because she champions those social issues.

but you live in florida and i dont.  what do you think?

Blairites claimed he was too far left. Corbyn probably is a closet Brexiter and not a fan of immigrants coming to Europe at the expense of British working classes, which is the POV of most of those 1970s socialist types anyways. Blairites despised him.

Hillary Clinton was as moderate as they come and she helped to torpedo Democrats Senate chances when she cost Katie McGinty and Russ Feingold in 2016. Put Feingold and McGinty on the ballot in 2020 and Democrats win those seats and retake the Senate. In the case of Feingold, Russ is the very type of progressive candidate that Florida Tigers and I are talking about. Had Clinton not been such a drag at the top, it seems likely Feingold gets his seat back.

Tony Blair would fit nicely into today's Democratic Presidential leadership having himself thought that invading Iraq based on fabricated intelligence was a solid idea.

Clinton basically ran even with Feingold and ran ahead of McGinty. And, given how downballot went in Pennsylvania and Wisconsin this year, I doubt either would have won even with Biden winning had they been standing for a Senate election.

Because it's a lot harder to negatively define a ballot issue than it is an actual human candidate running for office.

The Democrat brand is toxic down here. I do think AOC and others need to tone down this perceived scolding attitude. There's a better way to educate people about diversity or systemic racism than scolding and blaming poor white guys. Bernie in 2016 had it right: economic message in which his policies benefit everyone regardless of race or background. 2020 Bernie veered too much into the identity politics issue. Dems need to have better messaging. Reform police, not defund police for example. And stop assuming all Hispanic people will just vote as a monolithic bloc.

In my district, Rep. Shalala was a former Clinton surrogate who opposed M4A with poor visibility and PR. She lost to a spanish language TV show host. But why was she running for this race at the age of 80? Why are Pelosi, Schumer, etc still in office? This is another issue Dems need to solve. Step aside and get the next generation ready to lead instead of obstructing us... looking to you Pelosi and Schumer. Otherwise AOC will be the default option whether we like it or not.

Interesting. Why is when progressives down ballot lose it's because the moderate at the top dragged them down but when moderates lose, it's not because of them being tied to extreme defund the police progressives?

Because ballot issues aren't as definable as actual candidates are. They're issues.

What if Dems used those ballot issues to help them get elected?

Ffs Joe Biden still opposes weed lol. Get a Dem on stage running for President to advocate for 15/hr, M4A and legal weed and suddenly you're forcing Republicans to take unpopular positions against these issues! These aren't "socialist" or extreme radical positions in 2020.

I personally had no issue with the way Pelosi handled Trump's impeachment. I think it was a good move to give it to a seasoned hand instead of a rookie.
