Greene / Boyd Trade Options

AA got more for NC than I thought he would. A decent amount  less for Greene than I thought he would.

Lange is terrible, Richan is a lottery ticket - about right for 2 months of Nick.

Agreed, lucky to get anything at all.

I don’t want to go back to the old days, but there was something fetching and personal about the team when the Tigers could field a team in the 60s and a lot of the players were actually from Michigan.

And they couldn’t go anywhere and I know they were basically on the plantation which was bad, but still, days like this make me a little wistful.

So you want to be vindictive....

No, see what we have. There's no future in Nick. They made the same mistake handing the 2nd base job to Scott Sizemore.

the real question is whether we have come to a universally accepted definition of lottery ticket.

Yeah

But the more I read of Wentz's he seems like a decent return alone. Big, left, 90s fastball, decent command. Clearly he slots in with our other pitchers timelines and can replace boyd, who we trade in the offseason.

The outfielder always had talent maybe it just took him to 24 to out it all together.

I am not as bullish on Wentz, but that is just looking at the numbers.

Lefties with a 1K/IP rate can find work, though.

Not really mad about either move.  It just became clear that no one is gonna part with top hitting prospects.  We got some guys who look like they have some upside, but arent studs.

Couldve been much much worse.  Was looking bad there for a while

Not moving Boyd was the right move with how this played out

Paul Richan is a lottery ticket.

Drew Waters. Was I simply hoping for too much?

Waters would have been a dream. Alas, reality intervenes.

There was an under the radar trade today between the Marlins and Dbacks where one of them gave up one of their top hitting prospects for the others top pitching prospect.  Can't remember who the guys involved were but the point is that prospect for prospect trades do happen so I think the idea is to just get as many quality prospects you can in general, regardless of position and go from there.   You're never going to have trouble trading a young pitching prospect.

Neither return is exciting, but they also don’t spark outrage, either. Greene’s value was never going to be higher, and the lefty they got is a solid prospect. This demeritte kid feels like a bit of a throw-in. At the same time, he actually hits for power and can take a walk, and supposedly can play 2nd base.

getting anything for castellanos is a win. A couple former high draft picks is a decent return.

We weren’t going to get any stars back in the greene and castellanos deals. Any chance at a star would have come from a Boyd deal.

Then you look at Greinke and even he couldn’t bring back a legit stud prospect.

The thing I like about Demeritte is his walk rate has always been above 10% and his K rate has been coming down. It now sits around 25%, not great but he's been improving. He's also consistently hit for power. They really should call him up.

One day you're talking about Kieboom, the next day it's some guy named Demerit. Sometimes you're the Louisville Slugger, sometimes you're the ball.

Sometimes you're the guy with the fleecing shears, sometimes you're Al Avila.

I remember when we used to joke about how Shane Greene’s picture looked like he had to pee, and now here he is wearing big boy pants and going to a 1st place team.

I think the DBacks did very well--really depends on if/how much money they threw in to offset Greinke's salary.

I'm fine with the trade, it seems light but did any other reliever draw anything more?   If guys similar in value to Greene were drawing big returns and we didn't get that then I'd be upset but that's not the case.

I would say getting Carson Wentz for Shane Greene was brilliant by Avila.

It gives me hopes that the Lions might make the playoffs this season.
