Greene / Boyd Trade Options

Does anyone actually believe Avila will get anything in return for the MLB assets that are here now?

All those assets that he traded away in the past few years: the centerpiece is Jeimer Candelaria!

His return was a bunch of guys that can't hit over .225 or pitchers that are constantly injured.

He'll get swindled for sure.   Lucky for MTS though because it's the only topic keeping this board alive during the 35 year rebuild since winning it all in '84!

The Cubs were just renting two players and gave the Tigers some of their low level prospects that had no future with the big league club.

Candelaria has sucked for the Tigers.

Let's wait until Parades actually gets a major league hit before we consider the Tigers getting the better of the deal.

Well again, Wilson sucked for the Cubs so there is no way the Cubs got the better deal. Parades is a top 100 prospect. To this point imho Det got the better of the deal. If Paraded flops and Candy doesn't improve then it's a wash. Candy hit 19 HR as a rookie. Still hope for him

Who is Candelaria?

I always remember Candelaria and Parker from those Pirate teams.  But Candelaria was pretty much the epitome of a Pirate. 6'7", a little dumpy, dark and scruffy and in that black prison uniform hat with a lot of wild hair trying to escape - he really looked the part.

He looked stoned on every one of his baseball cards.

Candelaria looked the kind of guy who dated 17 year-olds with daddy issues when he was 23.  He would have driven a Camaro...or possibly a Firebird...and spent almost every penny from his paycheck (stocking shelves at Kroger's) on the upkeep.

Candy was a heckuva pitcher. And Parker would likely be in the HOF had he not found cocaine

With reason.

Or....he was a naturally happy fella.

I was just looking at their Iowa roster.  We could get Machado and Adducci back.  Happ looks pretty mediocre, but I’d like him in a Casty trade.  Not for Greene.

You really think Deuce would agree to come back to a 110-loss team?  He's got better things to do with his life.

Yeah - Parker had about as much pure baseball talent as anyone ever had.

Jim Bowden reported for The Athletic that it's not just a safe bet, but a 'guarantee' that one of the following will end up in pinstripes before August: Trevor Bauer, Noah Syndergaard, Marcus Stroman, Mike Minor, Matthew Boyd or Madison Bumgarner.

"The two starters who are most likely to be traded at this point appear to be the Toronto Blue Jays' Marcus Stroman and Rangers southpaw Mike Minor," Bowden wrote (paywall).

"The Yankees, Twins, Astros, Phillies, Athletics and Brewers have all at least inquired on both of them. Matthew Boyd of the Tigers is also available, but the asking price is astronomical - though of course that could change in the next nine days."

SD is in last place in the NL west, 5 games out of #2 WC with 6 teams to jump. Unless they are just looking to add at the fringes - which I doubt - considering "they are trying to be aggressive - they need someone with a couple of years of control, which basically is Boyd at this point.

"trying to be aggressive" is just palaver for the fans unless they actually do something.   They have and have had the ammo, just make the deal.

Tigers sign Edwin Jackson.

Among all the devils we know out there, I'm more OK with this one than most.

The asks are astronomical as though Avila still believes he and everyone else are still operating from black boxes, rather than all the data about every player in every system being widely available. Maybe he’s hoping to catch someone unawares.
