Greene / Boyd Trade Options

Hopefully, they can do it.  Other teams will be competing for the good free agents too.

Based on recent free agents.. this is not an accurate statement.

Boyd for all of the Padre prospects.

And Castellanos to whomever for one of the top level analytics folks.

The market is shifting constantly.  We don't know what it's going to look like two years from now.  The Tigers may have missed the window where guys like Machado and Harper attracted little interest.  The latest trend seems to be teams signing their good players to long term deals more frequently.  Relying on free agency to solve the Tigers hitting problems seems risky to me.

I doubt AA is talking about huge contracts. Maybe they will go after guys like Brantley to add offense when Mize, Manning et al are ready. Guys AA has been adding the past couple of years have been brought in as stop gaps and guys to potentially flip for prospects. I don't get the sense at all that AA added FAs last year and this to try and win. He was up front at the start of the rebuild that the Tigers will suck several years

Mike Moustakas has scrambled to sign the last two offseasons.  He was just an All-Star.  More guys like him.

Was McCosky one that was inferring AA was a dolt for asking for Gleyber or Tucker or those level of players?

I believe the Tiger's analytic guys see the same things those "smart" teams are seeing, hence the ask that has been reported. The Tiger's should trade Boyd, but only for a big return, because by the time the Tiger's are ready to contend, Boyd will be ready for a big $$ contract and the young (cheap) pitchers will be ready for their chance to star.

Ok so if that's the case there is no way to know if other teams will be bidding on good FA as well...like you claimed.

One bone to pick with McCosky's article would be the implication that Castellanos signing Boras made a deal less possible. Considering that according to Trevor Rosenthal is was Boras that led him to the Tigers, it seems an odd conclusion the Tiger and Boras have any problem with each other. Maybe a fairer take would be Nick wanted Boras because *Nick* decided was he going to test free agency, in which case the issue is due to either Nick or the Tigers, but either way the collapse in the probability of him signing seemed to have predated Boras & Co's arrival. Not a huge thing but to me sloppy  writing.

Fine.  That is true.  Maybe I need to get back to probability statements in every post like I used to.  By the same token, we also don't know that your assertion of my statement being inaccurate is true.

Braves, Dodgers, Ray's interested. Don't screw it up Avila.

Phillies. Bohm has bee rumored.

Not sure if they’d be interested in Nick as package with Boyd, but Herrera is suspended for the year. Obviously he isn’t a center fielder either.

They could also really use Greene.

3 Twins Prospects Reportedly "Off Limits" In Trade Talks

This was a tweet. I didn't read the article that was linked with it, so I have no idea if the Twins are interested in Boyd, or Greene, or any other Tigers. However, every time I see a quote like this, I like to imagine Al Avila saying to them: "Ok, fine, Matthew Boyd is off limits to the Twins. However, we can make Jordan Zimmerman available to the Twins, for some of their lesser prospects."

If the Tigers somehow manage to get Bohm, I'm claiming 'Bohm goes the dynamite' everytime he homers.

It sounds like a few teams are kicking the tires on Boyd. Maybe Al will pull off something spectacular. I like Matt and it would be cool to see him stay a Tiger, but if teams start throwing out multiple top 100 hitting prospects... Pull the trigger. We need bats, bad.

While the center piece should certainty be bat. If piece 2 is a pitcher, that's fine. Look at our pitching prospects this year. Mize and Manning seem to be fine, the rest kind of meh. If someone like the Padres give us a SS and then a 50-ish range pitcher, I'm OK with that.

Using that trade simulator, Bohm for Boyd straight up is a pretty even trade. Boyd worth a couple points more so we'd probably be due another prospect, but nothing near a top 100 guy.

Well, that value for value is one aspect.  But if there is suddenly a mad rush on Boyd, the market could go up.
