#11 = McMillon

#14 - Stuka

#17 - Block

#21 - McKeon

#33 - Kerr

#38 - Pruitt

#39 - Doughty

#40 - Dalatri

McMillon played for Texas Tech, so his team was just eliminated Friday.  Kerr plays for Michigan, so they're still in it until next Wednesday.

These kids look so young this year.  It must be a sign that I am old.

Anybody know when the deadline is for signing draft picks?

The rules may  have changed since then but we didn't sign Verlander until late in Oct and IIRC that was right up against the deadline.

yeah just found this:

https://www.baseballamerica.com/stories/when-is-the-mlb-draft-signing-deadline/

I didn't know college players used to be able to use their schools "drop/add" calendar to establish their signing deadline. That had to be pretty nutty for the teams to have to figure out.

I would guess the with the pool system for signing money it takes teams a lot less time to negotiate $$.

That and the old October signing deadline was not practical. Think about it a kid could get injured in those 9 months. Also it puts their life in limbo. Imagine your a HS senior who gets drafted in June. You might not know until October of next year where your life is going. You've missed the start of your freshman college year.

From a team aspect, what's the benefit of pushing it until october? Maybe you can push the cost on next year's payroll?

Clutch kid in the CWS, but regular season numbers were pretty pedestrian.

I like the way you roll.  You are bitterly sane.

Shiz. I just saw this. Looks like I have a new byline on my CV. “Bitterly sane”.

I love it.

Lulling the opposition into a false sense of security.

good question. Maybe teams thought that it shifted the leverage more to their side for draftees to see their chance of playing in their draft  year waning as the summer passed? Or maybe it was just a throw back to an era of slower communications and the logistics of getting everyone signed was just more ponderous?
