4/23 @7:10 Detroit Tigers at Boston Red Sox

Recommended Posts

I chose the Tigers when I was eight years old in 1960 and the first season I followed closely was ‘61.  Even then I knew it was completely insane and unfair that the Yankees could win 109 games and that the Tigers 101 wins was not enough for the pennant.

Oh great now we're gonna lose the World series in extra innings in Game 7

Lol, I was thinking of something like that as I typed.

My word the Red Sox stink.

Sometimes it matters more when you play someone rather then who you play.

Or something like that, I'm tired. : )

I became a Tigers fan in 1968.  I wanted to be a Cardinal fan like my father, but he told me I needed my own team and I wasn't about to be a Red Sox fan like every other kid in the neighborhood.  I chose the Tigers.  They proceeded to win 5 of 7 games against the Red Sox while my family vacationed in Cape Cod and I have been hooked for over 50 years.

How many DH have they played at Fenway since 1966?

I believe this is the 17th -- only 8 of those in my lifetime (since 1979), including back-to-back DH splits in 1984.

Odd stat of the day:

In 66 PA since the 8th game of the season, Cabrera's OBP has been 424 while he has not hit a home run. Miguel slumping and not hitting a HR for many PA has happened before. Miguel good enough at the plate to OBP 424 and not hitting a HR is definitely getting weird.

Wait, are you suggesting this particular stat is actually not that interesting?

Are we calling him Singuel now?

What's really sweet is winning a game when you used Farmer, that's stealing one.

I believe the kids these days refer to that as "having a day".

'67?  geez

My Tiger fandom started in 1976 when my Dad would take me down to the ball park to see the Bird pitch.  He'd top it off with a hotdog and some cotton candy.  If he was feeling especially charitable, I'd get a program, too.  I was only 42 years old.

Ditto.

Except for the 42 y.o. part...

I mean, really?

Series win?  Sweep the Sox.  Red & White.  All of them.  Sweep all the Sox.

Lost in the giddiness that was the doubleheader sweep is this sets the Tigers up very nicely for the series win.

If they win every series, they will be in good shape. Gotta win the series.

I am completely flabbergasted.  This can’t be happening.  Before I know it I’ll be dating a supermodel or something. This just seems so unlikely.

Well, Zac Reininger did hold hands with Charlize Theron on a 45 minute flight.

Yesterday a certain minor league writer pointed out Casey Mize had a career high IP.... and Ed asked why that's significant since you know... he's only pitched like 3 or 4 games.

It's so nice when everyone loves one another like this, Shelton's lessons are affecting all of us.

It’s the Jack Morris philosophy of “pitching to the score.“  If you only have to win one of the next two games to win the series the heat’s off and you don’t have to bear down as hard.  You can choose to be on top of the game or beneath it.

He said "Pitchers don't win on ERA, they win on grit"

Or in some cases they win game 7 of the WS because the opposing team's base runner makes a mistake and doesn't break on a double
