I'm fascinated by how Steve will manipulate the draft board. I expect some movement up and down to get assets.

That Karlsson deal is going to bite the Sharks in the ***.  I am guessing they will want out of it by year 5.

yeah - he looks like he's down a lot from his career highs for only being 28.

With three second round picks I wonder if they're looking to jump back into the first to grab someone they like that falls.

Vancouver talk radio is saying there's a lot of buzz that the Canucks are shopping their 10th OA 1st round pick. Which would be a bummer for the locals paying inflated prices to attend the 1st round of the draft on Friday night!

In your estimation how good are the blue-chip centres in this class and who has the biggest ceiling outside of Hughes?

  • Lots of good centres in the draft at the top end, Kirby Dach (Saskatoon Blades, WHL) to me is one player with a very high ceiling.
  • Kirby Dach. A really good group of centres.
  • Trevor Zegras (U.S. U18, NTDP), I think 10 years down the road people will look back and see who was taken before him and just wonder.
  • It’s a solid group and for me outside of Hughes, it would be Trevor Zegras.
  • They are excellent and in abundance this year. If I had to pick one I’d take Trevor Zegras.
  • I would go with Alex Turcotte (U.S. U18, NTDP) and/or Trevor Zegrasin terms of ceiling. If Turcotte proves not to be a band-aid, he can become a high-end two-way player. Zegras has shown excellent things with more ice time and I love his shot and grit.

From the Athletic....The Wings have been connected to Zegras recently.

  1. Detroit: Dylan Cozens, C, Lethbridge-WHL

Detroit has been linked to Dach, Cozens and Vasili Podkolzin. I heard Zegras during the months of April and May, but less so lately. I don’t think Dach gets past the Wings.

Corey Pronman (The Athletic)

I was planning to but not at those prices, and couldn't anyways because Friday night is a year-ending school event for my daughter.

But might pop by Saturday for rounds 2-7, tickets not surprisingly are dirt cheap.

I think by round 7 Yzerman & crew will be pretty much be packed up and might let a fan like me come down and make a pick at random on the Wings' behalf. I have my eye on a hulking Polish defenseman from Gdansk.

Every professional sports team has inflated ticket, parking, concessions, and souvenir pricing regardless if the team is good or bad.  I'm always slightly amazed there are thousands of people willing to pay hundreds of dollars to watch a mediocre to horrible product (Pistons, Lions, Tigers, and the Wings as of late).

I don’t think Kenny would be bothered.  The Red Wings mistakes are in the past and he’s got a whole new set of Oilers mistakes that he’s busy creating.

LS - if you go and accost Kenny Holland, I bet Tater would pay for your ticket and/or bail.

I got tossed from the Canucks arena for throwing an octopus with 10 minutes left in the clinching game of the 1st round in '02.  Tater might be on the hook for a big amount given this would be my 2nd offense.

Speaking of Vancouver

Benning is in the last year of his contract and is looking to make some noise. I'd be at least interested in hearing what Benning would be willing to offer to move up the 4 spots.

Wings have 3 second round picks so another one couldn't hurt. But Steve might opt for futures.

assuming hughes and kakko go 1-2 and the wings stay at 6, who do you hope they draft?

1) byram

2) zegras

3) turcotte

Any of those three would be great. One of them should drop and would prefer over Dach or Cozens.

Byram, Turcotte, Zegras, Cozens, Dach for me.  Guessing Byran and Turcotte are long gone though, I would sprint to the stage for either.  Zegras seems to fit what the Wings need too so that would be fun.

I wonder at which point in the 1st round, if any, Yzerman would be interested in trading up to grab goalie Spencer Knight. If he's still available at 15? If he's still available at 20?
