it just got started, brah!

However, this really should be the last year to tank.  We will have had three consecutive Top 5ish drafts--time to start adding building blocks next year to compete, including an infusion of more homegrown talent, as well as starting to dip into the free agency pool to address areas where the organization is deficient.  I wish we had done that this offseason with Machado, but hopefully we can take advantage of another buyer's market this offseason.

It could also be that they want to be cheap because that's better business.

As a fan...I want them to be making Granderson for Scherzer deals this offseason. not,  Castellanos for bag of balls deals.

They would need a Granderson to do that.

And a trading partner willing to make that deal.

Wasn't just Granderson but also Edwin Jackson.  He was coming off a 4 win season at 26 years old.

Boyd could be Jackson.  They don't currently have anyone that could be a 4-win two-way player like Granderson was.

No.  Jackson has about 12 years of MLB experience by the time he was 26.  Sure seems like it anyway.

We can always do something idiotic like trade Candelario for a scrub pitcher with a 5+ career ERA and 1.6+ WHIP and then get lucky that he has a career year like DD did with Jackson.

Jackson did have the pedigree though which Boyd didn't have.   He was the 6th overall prospect in baseball in 2004 according to prospectus and fangraphs had him at 11.
