I don't know, I was a baseball guy, but it sure will be an interesting conversation, especially the X and O stuff. Wonder what the stat guys can up up with. Then again, what gets into a 3 point specialist's head who now must take another step backward?

I don't know about the collegiate game or lower, but at the professional level there is a gradual decline in accuracy the further away from the basket you get once you get some 15 feet away, but it isn't enough to make the 3-point shot inefficient for the guys who can shoot the rock.

The NIT last year was played at that distance and the games I followed didn't seen to be as efficient from that distance.  I'm sure some stats will come out as time goes on how much of a change it made.

I am sure efficiency will drop, but at least at the professional level it would take a pretty significant change to make the mid-range jumper comparable.

Basically you either want to be shooting within 5 feet of the basket or taking the 3 independent of where the 3 point line is unless it is expanded markedly and the baseline 3 eliminated.

Again, professional level, maybe college is different.

Yeah. I've seen some people agitating to make the court wider so the baseline 3 could be longer but that doesn't seem to have any traction, yet. Letting a deeper "3" line just run into the side would be a different look. I'd be OK with it.

Pictures from the MSU camp today showing the new line - or at least a taped on version of it.

PS - Supposedly Bingham is heavier, X was a monster including draining 3s and Hall looks like the real deal.   Or...that's just all summer hyperbole.

I have no idea how this shakes out, and the NIT last year is a small SS (for the stat guys).

I like college BB.  They can do what they want and I will watch it (to a point) until they put me in a box.

I'm old.  The 3 point shot changed the game IMO.

I'm glad we have the NCAA to protect kids from monsters like Izzo.

Tom Izzo treated Iron Mountain players to a tour of Breslin. Then, he got an NCAA violation for it

IIRC, Rick Majerus got a violation for picking up one of his players from the airport and taking him to something like a $20 or $25 dinner after this player returned from his father's or mother's funeral and was (very understandably) distraught.

The NCAA are a bunch of hypocrites who care more 10x about following arcane rules when it suits them, ignoring them when it doesn't, and care > 100x more about making money than the student athletes.

Signing Blackshear seems to have raised hopes....

Florida makes big move in Way-Too-Early Top 25 for 2019-20

1. Michigan State Spartans
Previous: 1

Michigan State has remained in the No. 1 spot since the season ended and Cassius Winston announced he would be returning to East Lansing. While seemingly every other team has been undergoing roster changes, the Spartans are essentially the same team they were in mid-April. Along with Winston -- arguably the Preseason Wooden Award favorite -- Tom Izzo also brings back a healthy Joshua Langford and potential breakout candidate Xavier Tillman. A number of role players should see expanded roles next season, and Michigan State also brings in a talented recruiting class led by top-50 recruit Rocket Watts. Watts could add a bit of explosiveness to the perimeter group.

Candid Coaches: What team is going to win the 2020 NCAA Tournament championship?

Quote

Michigan State's dominant presence in this survey has broken a Candid Coaches record. No school in the eight-year history of this series has ever received more than 50% of the vote. What's more impressive about this is that, though MSU brings back plenty, it also lost Nick Ward, Kenny Goins and Matt McQuaid. All three players were significant and efficient contributors last season.

Tom Izzo preps for raised expectations as Michigan State starts practice

Tom Izzo, Spartans embrace pressure of preseason favorite status

A nugget from the Freep article:

It's unlikely Marquette transfer Joey Hauser will play this season.

MSU sent the NCAA a petition to waive the one-year mandatory non-participation rule, but Izzo said Tuesday he believes it is a “long shot” that it will be approved.

He said he expects a ruling one way or another in the next two weeks.

If Hauser gets the waiver this team will be crazy good......
