7-3 would have a really nice ring to it.

Charlie Fuchs

Years with Detroit: 1942

Tigers highlights:  3 wins

You may remember him from: Brooklyn Dodgers, St.Louis Browns, having a dirty sounding last name

After his brief time with us, it was suggested to him that he change his name to Charlie Suchs.

I don't like Hicks behind the plate against Kansas City unless Ross can miss a bunch of bats today.  But you probably can't run Greiner out there every day, so it is what it is.

Mercer to Harrison to Beckham.......it's almost poetic.

Gardy is certainly not letting up on the Royals when he runs that death star lineup out there......

Josh Harrison, leadoff man: .129/.250/.129.

But he's a middle infielder who looks like he should be fast.

Whit Merrifield went to a prep school didn’t he?  Had to.  Did he play lacrosse?

Hopefully Beckham handles first better than Carlos Guillen.  I'm looking forward to a bunch of awkward near collisions at first.

I thought maybe he was the star of one of those old time radio shows: “Whit Merrifield, All-American Boy”.

When I was stupid and in a sort of Little League mentality — instead of the genius that I now I am — I thought right field or 1st base was where you put your least competent defenders.  But there are a lot of opportunities to screw up at first base. It’s not like you can be on cruise control. Good luck Beckham.

Whitley David Merrifield III.  His father is a corporate lawyer.

The first inning will represent the second ever inning Gordon Beckham has ever played at first base in his major league career. His only other inning was yesterday’s ninth.

That said, he did play 156 innings of first base at Tacoma last year and handled 147 chances error free.

The “third” is pronounced in the same way Thurston Howell III pronounces “third”.

Merrifield always shows nice hustle. It does help when the right fielder just jogs to the ball and shows absolutely no urgency what so ever.

Gibby seems optimistic about the offense doing damage today.

A couple ground balls get the run home from 2nd after III's lead off double.

1-0 Royals after .5

Maybe Mercer didn’t bring his bat to Detroit, but he sure brought his glove.

That Bernstein guy is a dedicated lawyer - going out and getting into a head on collision so he knows his client's pain.   That seems above and beyond...........

Are we possibly deploying the worst Defensive outfield in baseball today ?

The Tigers find that question offensive.
