Going forward for the rest of the season, aside from occasional rest days, shouldn't the every day position players be.....

C Rogers

1B Candelario

2B HCastro

3B Lugo

SS WCastro

LF Stewart

CF Reyes

RF Demeritte

... just to see what there is to see?

Rogers might need a series off to clear his head.  The hitting slump is one thing, but the defense doesn't seem to be as advertised.  If it were one or the other right now, OK, maybe play through it.  He does have history of struggling with the bat at first when moving up a level.  But with some of the passed balls that we've seen, maybe he needs to step back for a few games to breathe?

agreed.  hard to watch right now.  give Greiner the next two starts and platoon from here.

The defense wasn't as good as advertised in the minors either.

I doubt that Al will be selling this first batch of position prospects as the future lineup within a year. A few of them in the group of candy, Stew, Rogers, etc will wash out and they'll be back to square one.

Very true.  Candelerio and Stuart in particular will struggle to be average for their position both offensively and defensively. If candy was ever going to show anything he would have by now.

If this kid pans out then the Greene trade might look pretty good.....

Here's why Detroit Tigers prospect Joey Wentz 'fits right in' with other top arms

Quote

“He’s 21 years old and runs it up to 94 miles an hour,” Erie manager Mike Rabelo said. “Big frame. Big, high three-quarters arm slot. Hard worker. Quiet kid. High ceiling.”

Wentz is ranked as the Tigers' No.10 prospect, according to MLB Pipeline, behind No.1 Casey Mize, No.2 Matt Manning, No.4 Tarik Skubal and No.9 Alex Faedo.

“As soon as he got here, he fits right in with Tarik and Casey and Matt and Alex, all those guys,” Rabelo said.

In my view, folks like Daz Cameron, Parker Medows, and Cody Clemens are more than likely in the same boat, but I  do hold out some hope  in their  cases

I guess that if enough of them stick (maybe throw Cameron, Paredes, and Greene into a potential group as well), time that with a hopeful influx of significant pitching talent, and then add free agents to that mix for a competitive team in 2022?

Cameron is probably a souped up defensive version of Rogers. He's better defensively but will probably struggle with making contact. Paredes has less than zero defensive value right now. And Greene is 2+ years away if he is on a standard trajectory.

Regarding Jake's defense ..how did he receive such glowing reviews?  Did he earn them or was it mere hype?

''standard trajectory" ?

What is that for ...(a) an 18 year old kid ...(b) a #5 draft pick?

I'm thinking he needs to be starting for the Tigers beginning 2022 AND have earned it.  Otherwise probably not going to be as 'awesome' as the Tigers need.

Heartbreaking. I'm seeing a lot of comments on social media asking why he was even out skateboarding. I think we all forget sometimes that these guys are humans with lives outside of baseball.

I would bet major league contracts would typically forbid this kind of activity among the players. I doubt Chace's minor league contract had that in it.

If Greene is on a standard trajectory, he's at least four years away. He's two years away if he's on an accelerated superstar trajectory.

Let's split the difference and say 3 years is the best case scenario. He's still 3+ years away while the rest of the Batch 1 prospects are either flaming out or developing.

2 years it is, then!

I'd be down for that.

That's a reasonable rare case scenario. He'd be on the club at 21 and that's usually a great sign for a player.

A lot of it came from Emily, so probably the latter.

Minor league catching metrics are meh, but the ones on BP that attempt to factor framing and controlling the running game in never really had him as elite.
