Just read that Eugenio Suarez has hit 48 home runs this year, the most in a single season by a Venezuelan-born player.

I don't know how many of us have been listening to Dan and Jim much recently, and who knows what Dan's sources are, but he is persuaded that the league is going to make a *major*  change to the ball next season - to the point where he has been talking about analytics teams scrubbing through rosters to determine which players are going to lose and gain value next season.

I hope he is right but color me skeptical.

I really hope they do something.  I think they will, although I am skeptical they will do it as soon as next year.  Between the Tigers being garbage and the style of play trending more and more to all or nothing, I am at an all-time low in my interest in the game.  I don't want it to slip any further and I don't think the Tigers are going to help next year.

Yeah, me too...I just cannot believe how little I care anymore about the MLB.  A strong Tiger team would help a lot, but the all HR/K game is pretty bleh to me.

In 1976...No one hit 40HR's.   Four guys hit 30+  and only 22 managed to hit 20.  The game was pretty entertaining back then.  MLB didn't think so...they juiced the balls and HR' s and XBH jumped in 1977.  They dialed it back a bit in 1978 and seemed to find the happy medium.

They've adjusted the ball to fit the times before...do it again

Same.  This is how MLB would be played if Vince McMahon owned it.

MLB has taken steamed organic broccoli with a little butter and salt on it and instead simply poured sprinkles on it and had it served by an anime Japanese schoolgirl to entice the casual fan.

I find whenever the Tigers take their occasional plunge to the depths of the big leagues, as they do waaaay too often, I start to take more of an interest in the rest of the teams and players in the game. When we were on our playoff runs I was pretty focused on the team. But I am definitely less interested overall in watching highlights now since 60% of them are either a homer or a strikeout, and that's just boring.

The elevation of the homer and strikeout is such that when MLB Network shows their Plays of the Week, more and more of them are homers or strikeouts. I don't think of a home run as a "great play". A home run is a fly ball that went too far to get caught. I think of a great play as something special a player does in the heat of the moment, typically on defense or while baserunning.

I fail to see a problem here.....

I've been to 23 games this year at Comerica Park and damn if I ever saw a Japanese school girl...

I can just see the Tigers hiring beer girls to try to generate ticket sales.

It’s easier than fielding a good team

I miss the days when this is what national baseball coverage looked like.  Greatest theme song ever.

Used to see this clip on an old Nickelodean show called Turkey Television.... I believe this was pre SNL Carvey as when I first saw him on SNL I thought "That's the the Chopping Broccoli" guy, which he later incorprated into a sketch.

Eww...broccoli.

To further add to your dislike of broccoli....

A few months ago I took the kids to the park, the park had an old bathroom.  Well maintained for the most part, but just old.  One of those bathrooms that was designed and built for like 100 people when a single urinal probably would have been enough.

Both kids thought the bathroom smelled liked broccoli...it kind of did and it was pretty disturbingly gross since I enjoy broccoli.  I am not sure if I will ever forget that day...there are other reasons for its memorability, but that is def one of them.

Since 1989 the Tigers have lost ~8% off of their All-Time winning percentage. Through their first 88 years the Tigers had the second best AL winning percentage. Now they are only 160 games over .500 and trail the Indians by 8 percentage points. Detroit is 239 games under .500 since 1989. The Tigers three seasons of 109 losses or more match the total number of 109 loss seasons from the rest of the league during this time.

The run from 2006-2016 was scintillating, although none of those teams won 100 games or were really ever the best team in baseball, sort of like the franchise's identity for its first 88 years. Competitive, with a few great teams and a smaller number of awful ones. Over the last three decade, however, the Tigers have shown more aptitude at being awful than great.
