News to report.

Yep.  Stupid money finally paid..

Although given that Machado went for 10 and 300 and Harper for a reported 13 and 330, after supposedly being offered 10 and 300 or a bit more, the Phillies are getting three extra years at no more than 10 million per.  So even if Harper is predictably Pujols- or Cabrera-like or even worse in his late 30s, it won't cost the Phillies much for those unproductive  years.  It was apparently important to Harper or Boras or both to get the biggest contract ever, and this slightly tops Giancarlo Stanton's 13 and 325.

Of course, the Phillies could have some instant buyer's remorse if Harper duplicates his 2018 numbers of .889 OPS and 133 OPS+.  Those are not bad stats, but they're far from spectacular, and they're quite a bit short of what I assume that the Phils are hoping for.

7 years in the majors and only 2 seasons with a 900 OP or better, 2 seasons of 30 or more HR, and only 2 seasons where he played at least 150 games. 13 years and $330 million is a lot. His 2015 season was a monster season and so was 2017 but the rest was just good. He's 26 and already below average defensively. How's he going to be in 10 years in the NL with no DH? Especially if he racks up injuries like he has?
