The National Emergency Over the Wall

It would also mean her seat would be empty for 2 years, as Mitch has established that empty SC seats are to be decided by the voters in POTUS election cycles.

Is that really the case?  That McConnell would tell Trump that the vacancy could not be filled?  That does not seem very likely.  No, I think that those who are shamefully speculating about her death would get their wish for another conservative nominee.

Anyone who thinks that she is going to retire during the next 2 years is out of his mind.  Stan knows that as well as anyone else.  So any speculation about an imminent vacancy is speculation about her death.  It could not be more plain, or more sick.

Well, speculating about her death is realism. 85 year olds with lung cancer who haven't shown up to work in a month and have cancelled all public appearances don't generally make a full recovery. Sure, anything is possible, and God bless her for having such a long career. But if you aren't capable of sitting in a courtroom, listening to testimony and doing everything else required to be a judge, it's time to go. I'd say that about a conservative judge too. Clerks shouldn't be doing the job of a SC judge. Clerks aren't appointed and approved by the senate.

But a obese 77 year old dying of a heart attack is a clear sign of conspiracy, amirite?

79 year old. Even more likely to be a conspiracy.

I just did. If clarence thomas was in the same situation, I'd feel the same way. You can either function on the job or you can't.

Would there be any Republican easier to beat than The Donald? I really doubt he wins the GOP nomination. I hope he runs, it would be handing the Presidency to the Democrats. Of course, a lame duck Trump is a scary thought.

$25 billion for the wall, Trump resigns within 90 days, and lives in exile in Trump Tower Moscow.

Just keep the money and leave. Forget the wall. I'm all for it, is the GoFundMe page set up yet? ?

Several of the states Trump won in 2016 have decided not to hold a GOP primary. It’s the party’s prerogative. Trump has the nomination, even if he gets caught in a threesom with Jared and Pence

Romad will disagree, but the GOP is the Trump Party. Without question Trump will be their nominee.

And this kind of demonstration of what the GOP thinks about representative democracy is exactly what has driven and will continue to drive the people who might have fought for control of the GOP with the Trump out of the party completely. The GOP and Trump have become Chavez and Venezuela circa his term term.

I didn't know this. Is there a list of states that won't be holding a GOP primary?

Tom Brokaw ended up this morning's Chuck Todd show with a bewildering recommendation that immigrants could do better too, they could make sure that their kids are all learning to speak English.  It was sad to watch him make such a fool of himself.

I want to admonish this comment, because it was a wasted opportunity to lampoon Roger Stone's 1996 falling out with the Dole campaign.

I can’t think of a faster way to get Trump’s approvals into the 20s by invading Venezuela.

He gave a legit apology.  For what it's worth I've heard from Mexican friends similar sentiments.  It was always said in the context that while the US has no official language, English is what nearly everybody speaks so it's better to learn it well in order to give yourself a chance to excel.  Don't let that be the thing that gets in the way, even inadvertently.  I didn't see Brokaw's comments.  I'm not going to let that spoil anything.  He's a legend and done great things for WWII history.

"I am sorry, truly sorry, my comments were offensive to many. The great enduring American tradition of diversity is to be celebrated and cherished," he wrote on Twitter, part of a flurry of posts backtracking away from his earlier remarks. "I am sorry - I never intended to disparage any segment of our rich, diverse society which defines who we are... Finally, I am sorry I failed to convey my strong belief that diversity - dynamic and inclusive is what makes America."
