I offer thoughts on THE GAME

Recommended Posts

Michigan has been a Top #11-Top #20 program during Harbaugh's 4 years. At times flirt with moving up into the range of Top #6-Top #10 program but get shattered in the biggest games. Still a big gap from being a Top 5 program - they're not Alabama, Clemson, Ohio State, Georgia, Oklahoma. But after that ...?

The problem is 0-4 against Ohio State!

Overall 10-3 (#12 in final AP), 10-3 (#10), 8-5 (unranked), 10-2 (should be around #10 after this weekend). Including 2-2 against MSU, 3-1 vs Penn State, 2-1 vs Wisconsin, 0-1 vs Notre Dame, 1-2 in bowls. All that is decent - not great, not bad, Carr-like. It's the 0-4 against Ohio State!!

I note all the ridiculous comments coming from ohio state fans all over the place tonight and file them away, to be snickered at when they get their ***** handed to them in the playoffs, should they get there.

There's a lot of room between dominance and the dumpster fire that the Michigan football program has been under the savior Jim Harbaugh.  This alumnus has seen more than enough of him and his krapfest.  The next time he and the rest of his staff and his embarrassment of a team go to another country, they should stay there.

Also, as far as I'm concerned, losing this way to any Ohio State team -- much less one that barely beat Maryland and got smoked by Purdue -- is much worse than getting rolled by anyone else in the playoff.

It could be worse. We could have needed the final 3 minutes to defeat a 1-11 Rutgers team....

Honest question.   Did Michigan beat anyone that was actually GOOD this year?   Was Penn State GOOD?   I don't think so, they were pretty mediocre.  Wisconsin and Michigan State were bad.   Struggled with Indiana and Northwesten.    Congrats on the SMU win and beating Nebraska before they started buying into their coach.  Way to go against Maryland, and Western Michigan.   Woo hoo.  Thats impressive.

Michigan got prison raped today, but a less than stellar Ohio State team.

Michigan is squarely in the ranks of the Tennessees and the UCLAs and Oregons and Miamis..............Has-Beens.

You know the kids that they'll be recruiting in 3 years weren't even born the last time they won the Big 10 (2004).

Tell me how this is soooo much better?

It's not.

Great that Harbaugh gets so much press.  He sure doesn't deserve it but it's the only thing that makes them relevant.  Get on the field and it's a big nothing.

And you know what the icing on the cake is going to be?   Georgia losing to Alabama,  Notre Dame losing to USC and Texas beating Oklahoma and watching those bastards from Ohio State go to the playoff again.

So Michigan fan (and I am one).  Enjoy your revenge tour t-shirts.   Because you won't be replacing them with any championship ones and as far as the Rose Bowl goes.............who gives a ****.   It's a second-place trophy.

This program sucks.

You basically confirmed what I said before- the big ten is a mediocre conference. Michigan beat Northwestern- which is I guess an above average, decent team. And they beat both purdue and Maryland, who hung over 100 points collectively on this buckeye team. But overall, the conference is not very deep right now. You could say the exact same thing about osu. They struggled mightily against Nebraska and maryland and purdue. They slept walk to an unimpressive win against a bad msu team. For my money, I don't think osu is impressive enough to be in the top 4. They might get there, but they will get smoked.

Oh, but back in 1903......................But back in the 20s..............................But you know they were awesome in the 70s (never won a championship, always lost the Rose Bowl).

Michigan is the guy who had a couple of hits back in the early 1970s and gets gigs on Dancing With The Stars and plays at Steak Houses and gets guest appearances on the The New Love Boat.    That's who Michigan is now.

Michigan is entering Lions territory for me now.   I'll watch, I'll hope, but I will expect nothing and I'll stop getting angry.

Last time I got really angry at the Lions was October 2005 when Chris Weinke came in and threw the same pass to Ricky Proehl 5 out of 6 plays to lead Carolina to a one point win.   I stopped really caring.  Still follow them,  still hope, but don't let them ruin my day.   I am done letting Michigan kick me in the balls year after year after year.

Well, when you consider what they were after lloyd left and before harbaugh came here...that was a a joke. they were giving away tickets with the purchase of a mountain dew, for crying out loud. Complete 360 from those days. I'm not happy about losing to osu, but the program is at least a division one program again. It was not for a number of years.

I look at it this way. I'd rather be 10-2 going into a rather insignificant bowl than 11-1 with urban meyer as my coach. the guy is a total scum bag. And based on twitter, their fans reflect the character of their coach. classless.

The fall is eventually coming for osu, and it's not going to be pretty for them when it comes.

Bo's genius was convincing everyone that winning the Big 10 and going to the Rose Bowl was all that mattered. Non-conference games early in the season, the actual Rose Bowl result, and national titles were labeled as either exhibitions or mythical.

That's what everyone thought when Tressell went down.    If Meyer leaves,  they'll bring in Bob Stoops and continue beating us.

But he didn't get the second half of that equation because he never won the Rose Bowl.   Because Bo, like today's fans, was stuck in 30 years ago when the forward pass was a novelty and his team never practiced against it and those Pac 10 teams exploited it.   I love the guy, but he wasn't as great as the legend.

They're not getting sanctions.  The sanctions will be the coach being fired.   They just aren't getting punished for an assistant coach who may have hit his wife.   He got fired.  Maybe Meyer gets fired and that's where it will end.

I got so mad at the game today it made me have a migraine headache. It's just not worth it. I'll watch but just go into it with low expectations like any other Lions game.

I didn't say it had anything to do with the coach who got fired. There is dirt all over urban. Like the video of him working out players to the absolute extreme that came out earlier this year, for starters. Plenty of former players **** all over him in that video. But there is bound to be more. Notice how he suddenly has "migraines"? Useful cover if the **** hits the fan on him once again.

To me, that means nothing. Northwestern isn't the 2nd best team in the Big 10. Put Michigan in the other division and Harbaugh would have taken them to the Big Ten title game once or twice already. A 2 point conversion last week by Maryland and Michigan would be playing in the Big 10 championship this year and it still would have meant nothing.

Lots of hot take nonsense today from a lot of folks.  What are you going to do?  It sucked.

Agree with this. The other teams that haven't made it either perpetually suck or are in the easy west division. Michigan is in the toughest division of the two. That said, it's telling that, as you note, Maryland damn near beat them after hanging 51 on their defense, and purdue DID beat them hanging 40+ on them. So what does the big ten even mean on any given week? lots and lots of parity, no matter what your record might be.

Michigan has alot to fix, but I feel pretty safe in saying that Harbaugh will be at Michigan a lot longer than urban will be at osu.

Doesn't help that there's virtually nothing else on the Michigan-area sports landscape to look forward to. I guess if you're into college basketball the Spartans and Wolverines might make a run for the Final Four. But the Lions ain't making the playoffs. The Red Wings ain't making the playoffs. If the Pistons even make it, it sounds like they wont' be going anywhere. Tigers ain't making the playoffs.  I guess the Kronk gym isn't around anymore to at least give us a big  Vegas fight to look forward to, right?
