The Mandalorian

I’m intrigued by what the “dramatic spoiler” related to the Star Wars universe is going to be. We won’t have to wait long, with it being revealed in the first episode.

With this show occurring in the time between the original trilogy and the sequel trilogy, part of me thinks it could relate to something unknown from the sequel trilogy.

Although it could also not be a “spoiler” and more of a reveal of something from the earlier movies that was left unaddressed.

I saw references to that but wasn't sure if it was clickbait and I didn't click because I don't want to know....

My wild-*** guess. Obi-wan has a son/daughter and said son/daughter is in the show.

I think the SW universe can feel too small at times, and this would only add to that. I hope there aren't a lot of references to any of the OT characters.

I kinda hope it is basically all new characters.  Bring in some characters from some of the canon books that have not been on screen, but leave the Solo/Skywalker/Kenobi/Organa etc out of it.

kind of bummed it's not yet on Xfinity, if it ever will be.  I don't have a smart TV.  and my Roku is 5 years old...

I bet you could get the app on your roku, even if it is five years old.

I would love to hear what others think of this first episode after they have seen it. Critical and fan response appears to be positive based on cursory searching. It had some nice moments, but I guess it just felt a step down in overall quality relative to “prestige” level fantasy tv like game of thrones, westworld, watchmen, etc.

I got a Star Trek vibe from it, I guess. And that’s fine. I like Star Trek. I was just expecting something else.

Another way to describe it would be that it felt like a live action version of Star Wars rebels (which maybe shouldn’t be surprising given that the rebels showrunner directed this episode), but what works in animation doesn’t necessarily work as live action.

That said, it’s only one episode and there is potential here.

I’m getting Error 41 and almost nothing is showing. Apparently this is a large issue effecting many non iOS or Appletv users.   MouseFail

I don’t know how much of a difference it would have made, but I have to wonder why they waited so long to make the various apps available for download. At the very least it could have given them a pretty good idea of the relative number of users on different systems. Get people to have their accounts set up and logged in, and then flip the switch where playback is allowed. Could have even tested it out a bit by making trailers or other short videos playable to work out these kinks.

It seems kind of foolish to have people wondering where the app is a few hours before launch.

i liked it quite a bit. I didn't really think it felt cheap at all. A little TOO much nostalgia, bringing back a few secondary characters. That sort of thing always makes the universe seem small, but the CGI looked good and the main character is pretty cool. The reveal at the end was a little weird as someone (Vader, Palp, Luke) should have sensed him at some point, yeah? I liked it quite a bit though.

Interesting. I thought the whole first sequence involving Horatio sanz was really bad.

The firefight near the end was very good.

The reveal at the end was obviously the “dramatic spoiler” and we will learn much more about it. I don’t know exactly what is implied by it, but if it was the subject of a substantial bounty it’s obviously of high importance. To your question, I don’t know than any of those three would necessarily sense anything if what you are implying is correct.

Not sure what the nostalgia characters are that you are talking about.

I was able to access it on my roku but it was very slow and my son wasn't patient enough so he switched it back.  HE's watching the Toy STory movies on it...

I was streaming Jedi on my phone while I work.

The bounty hunter the reported Luke/Ben to the storm troopers in Mos Eisley
Jaba's pet Salacious Crumb
Bossk was there or another bounty hunter who looked just like him
seems like there was also another bounty hunter as well that we've seen before
the gonk droid
the talking ball thing at the front door of Jaba's palace

Spoiler

and then of course baby yoda

Of all the different species of aliens and robots there must be in the universe, a LOT of them in that episode we've either seen before or just look like ones we've seen before for nostalgia purposes.

Loved the show but I felt like it was a bit much.

They are the same species, but not the same characters.  It would feel really weird if we were trotting around on all the Star Wars canon planets and not seeing species we have seen before.  As far as your spoiler...

Spoiler

that is not who that was.

I have to say I enjoyed the **** out of that first episode, but I am a big fan of Favreau and obviously star wars.  About half done with the thiiiird Thrawn canon book.  Decided to dive back into the new Star Wars books as I was about 8 months behind on the new ones that have come out.

I never considered any of those things as anything other as familiar species and technology. I don’t think that makes the universe seem small.

Apparently there was a mandalorian that looked an awful lot like boba fett hanging out in the mandalorian compound.

About 6 years too late...

Unless you subscribe to the non canon theory that he somehow climbed out of the Sarlac Pit in ROTJ, Boba is dead.  The Mandalorian takes place about 6 years after ROTJ....the movie where Boba dies.

Yes, I understand all mandalorians look similar. And yes, you're going to run into the same species once in a while. But with space travel, there shouldn't be so many familiar faces/droids. That's all I was saying. The nostalgia aspect was overdone a bit.
