The Mandalorian

Recommended Posts

Figured this needed its own thread.

For those who don't know, Disney and Jon Favreau are creating a Star Wars TV show called The Mandalorian. In short, Mandalorians are what Boba Fett is, if you didn't already know.

The main actor has been cast, and it is Pedro Pascal, the actor who played The Viper in Game of Thrones.

This is supposed to start next fall.

I always thought it was up for debate whether boba fett was mandolorian or if he just wore the armor.

I think I saw that this was set post return of the Jedi. Is that right?

Not sure about the first part. But I think it kills any excitement about Mandalorians if its true, so I doubt it.

On the 2nd part, I believe that's right.

I have to question why they would set it in that period if not to bring back Boba?

They need a popular character to build on to bring us more than what a movie can bring and I am ok with that, but I was never a big fan of Boba.  Do not hate him or anything, but never understood the love for him.  He is a fine character.

I think the Viper is playing someone other than Boba though.  Not sure on that as I am not reading anything on it really.

Either way I will gladly take a TV series based on Star Wars...one that is not animated and is aimed more at adults.  There is no shortage of stories to be told that have already been written a million more that could be told...we are talking about an entire galaxy.

I wonder how much the Disney network will cost when it airs?

Good question. It could be that it’s simply a period of time they can use that isn’t already covered by movies or other tv series.

By setting it after the fall of the empire and before the new republic has established itself, it gives the series a bit of a lawless aspect.

I don’t think it means they will bring back Boba Fett.

I hope they don't. They did bring Maul back from the dead but I think that was George's doing. We didn't actually see Boba die either.

Fair point on the timeline.

I wonder if Boba, if dead, will be some sort of martyr? A hero that was brutally killed by the Empire or something ridiculous like that. I'm sure we'll hear their version of his story at some point and I doubt it'll be anything accurate. Could make for an interesting story.

I don’t think this series is going to be a bunch of Mandalorians running around. I think it’s just one dude.

I did some googling and apparently it was said in the clone wars series that Jango Fett was not a Mandalorian, and that he just wore the armor. I think it could be retconned to make him one if they wanted to, though.

The tease for this series appeared to say that both fetts were, so they are probably going that route. Given the timeframe, it wouldn’t surprise me if the new guy is a Boba Fett offspring.

I'd like to check this series out mainly because I like Pedro Pascal, but don't see myself willing to subscribe to yet another streaming service to watch it.

Boba was apparently around 36 in RotJ. Pascal is 43.

I am still holding out hope they somehow bring Quinlan Voss into the fold somewhere.

He survived order 66, but is never talked about.  The Dark Disciple book was one of my favorites in the new cannon.

Not gonna happen.

I wonder how many sets they will have.  Rumored that 100 mil is the budget for the 10 episodes they green lighted...not sure if they run more or this is a one off with a completed story for the 10 episodes.

I actually hope it is a completed story after 10 episodes and if successful they can always commission another 10 episodes with a different story they could tie in somehow.

So is this going to be the Mandalorian (who I am going to call the viper for obvious reasons until I know the characters name) running around the galaxy doing bounty hunter type stuff or is most of it going to take place on one planet or moon somewhere?

Once again my hope is on multiple sets on multiple planets.  That is the route the book the Dark Disciple took and I liked how they were running around all over.

The first eye candy cast member announced:

I like her...as a person, honestly.  She seems like a good person.  Glad she is getting a high profile gig like this.

Yeah. She's very talented.

I thought she was pretty boring in Deadpool but that was probably more due to her character.

Trailers tend to have a way of looking better than the actual product, but this **** looks awesome. Love what they've done with this.

Today it was announced that Disney+ will be streaming their original series' one episode per week, rather than all at once. Kinda bummed about that. Stranger Things has proven you can generate just as much buzz by releasing them all at once. If not more. But maybe not as long-lasting.

Guessing this has something to do with Boba, or the gear he wears.

I'm probably going to subscribe just for this. Everything else will just be a bonus.
