I find myself agreeing with a good bit of that, shabba.

My great-grandparents lost just about everything when Hitler invaded Poland, and all the money they had invested in Polish bearer bonds became worthless.

One of the oddities of American history is that back to back to back War, Depression and War wiped out so much wealth that for a couple of generations it allowed America to forget the basic economic truth that absent War or Depression, or a political policy designed to prevent it, the rich will always get richer. The more money you have the more efficiently and effectively you can put it to work to increase it's value, so wealth will always tend to concentrate -  until either political policy, or social upheaval stir things up again. The Reagan tax cuts  were already 20 yrs too late in the cycle; the conditions for wealth concentration were well on the way to becoming more favorable before RR put it into overdrive by dropping rates at least 10% too far.

Can't really argue with any of that.     But the difference between then and now was back then, the money was backed by something more than the full faith and credit of the United States.   When the social upheaval stirs things up again, there is no gold to back all that worthless paper.   Someone needs to get out front of this to save the middle class, and in my opinion, both parties have abandoned them, with the GOP focused on the cash, and the DNC focused on getting as many dependent voters to the polls, and frankly, they are both squeezing the middle from either end.

My great-grandparents lost just about everything when Hitler invaded Poland, and all the money they had invested in Polish bearer bonds became worthless.    This is something that the 1% should keep in mind.    To continually squeeze the middle class into oblivion to make the rich richer is going to burst like a bubble sooner than later, and when most of one's wealth is determined by the arbitrary value ascribed to a piece of paper or the binary code used to stand in for a collection of said paper, the people who have the most, have the most to lose.

Tax cuts and trickle down can work if the circumstances are right, and one has the political backbone to not spend more than we have.  That's why it worked for Reagan.   Bringing a 70-90% tax rate down to 28% moves money out of shelters, lowers interest rates,  and causes that rising tide that raises all boats.   But Arthur Laffer was a g****mned Nobel Prize winner.  Who the **** do we have theorizing policy now?  We're not moving 70 to 28 anymore, we're letting people loophole out of paying 35 on millions and millions of dollars.    We need someone to step up and get the ultrarich to pay their fair share or even an unfair share, by convincing them it is their best interest to have a thriving middle class.   Henry Ford had it right when he paid $5 a day on a 5 day work week.    People need the money to buy the cars and the time to use the cars.    Without a strong middle class, the bubble creating the super wealthy pops, and the whole system crumbles.  It almost happened in 2008.   How long will that band-aid hold?

So, a mainstream third party should regard the ultrarich as such, and support a thriving middle class.

shabba4detroit is born again hard.

Yup- But parties that don't depend on people for their funding and labor don't care about people in their politics. That's why I harp on the process issue - e.g things like Citizen's United.

Like a shot I would vote for Jeb if he ran.

What I would really like to see....

Is for Bush and Kasich to take one for the United States of America.

The two of them run as an Independent ticket in 2020. And run on EXACTLY the same platform as Trump. Reduce taxes, replace Obamacare "with something better", revamp immigration, "build that wall", get out of Afghanistan and other "America First" positions, sharp reductions in "entitlements", revamp Manufacturing and the Coal Industry... but do it without Trump's rancor. Be polite about it. But Mirror his platform. Let the Never Trumpers register their protest vote if they wish to do so.

But run this ticket/ this platform to specifically siphon off as much Trump voters as possible. Split that Republican vote. As a generally awesome FU to Trump.

How 'bout them apples?

Sour and spoiled (**** Kasich, and I live in Ohio).

Seems a third party thread has already been taken over by Trump.  Too bad.

Shabba's monetary stuff caught my eye.  Trickle down, Laffer, Ronny Raygun and all.  Even said the magic gold word without being called a loon, or some spiced up derivative (pun intended).

Reagan tripled the debt.

They wouldn't do that to their donors.

Republicans in the suburbs certainly are open to alternatives as was proven by the mid terms.

Burn it to the ground, salt the earth around it, and start a center-right party that has some shame and humility.
