It was 50 years ago today

4pm ET right now. Not sure what time the game started but likely 50 years ago to the hour that Freehan was jumping into Lolich's arms. Northrup's at-bat at 1:48:00 of this clip. Man landed on the Moon the next year but this broadcast looks WWII-era.

Jim Price, Willie, and Kaline being interviewed by Ernie in the visitor’s clubhouse on NBC after the 7th game victory. These are screen captures I took on my iPhone off a YouTube video of the game. They were all drinking long neck beers.  I hope it was Strohs instead Budweiser.

This is the screen capture on my iPhone of a highlight video on YouTube of the final moments of the 1968 World Series championship that I converted to a GIF. Good times.

My grandmother died at 97 back in July.   For the get together dinner for friends and family I went through some boxes at her house to find some pictures and came across a red suitcase.

I found newspapers from the day after -  October 11, 1968.   These are the actual papers, not reprints.   It was quite a find

Wait, you had your iPhone out at the game?    Nobody totally freaked out at you?    Thinking you were from the future?

I found a Canadian broadcast of the game on You Tube, complete with commercials.  It's cool to see old commercials.     I pretty much have the ones from November 22, 1963 memorized.  I have watched the video of CBS' coverage so many times.   Any kind of documentary or coverage of that day is just fascinating to me and I can't NOT watch it.

Cool, I still have the first section of the Free Press from 1984 and the entire News and Free Press newspapers from June 8, 1997.

And I think I heard or read somewhere, maybe on the Year of the Tigers album, that there was a newspaper strike that shut down both the News and the Free Press for much of the summer of 1968. So that in those pre-Internet, pre-message board, pre-sports talk radio days, the WJR radio broadcasts of the Tigers were never more impactful than they were that summer.
