There is no such thing as too many starting pitchers.

This is true but most prospects don’t pan out.

Tigers seem to have a surplus of young starters. I am slightly surprised we haven’t seen a couple packages together to either acquire a positional player or better prospect.

Some of these guys will have to transition to the bullpen just due to lack of space or play at a lower level than desired.

We don't want to add veterans obviously. And, for whatever reason, we don't see minor league guys traded for minor leaguers. At least not often.

The Tigers have already signed Tyson Ross and Matt Moore to be starting pitchers, so they aren't ready to promote any of the prospects just yet.

Practically every Tiger pitcher has a question mark behind his name going into S.T. Should make for an interesting spring. I guess as a fan you just have to see the glass as half full.

Sorry. I shd have said "we do not want to trade prospects for veterans".

Agreed, depending on what you consider a veteran. If the Tigers can get a younger MLB player who has multiple years left on his contract,  then I am all for trading prospects for players like that.

It's certainly not a team full of Rusty Meachems.

My problem with Henning's thesis is that you can't sink most of the hopes on Avila's tenure into one draft. That's what he seems to be saying...and we need luck:

Another way to phrase it: A team that has developed 6 above average players in the last 30 years, will suddenly develop 6 from one draft. Sure, yeah, ok.

The Tigers have hired Kirk Gibson as a special assistant to GM Al Avila. #Tigers plan for him to assist with on-field duties in majors & minors & be involved in personnel meetings.

Well, Al Avila needs all the help he can get.

So how will this play into his duties as a TV guy? I love the news but how will this work out?

I am looking forward to getting the Super Bowl out of the way.  Unfortunately, the Patriots will probably win and then I have to endure talk about the parade.  Some player will do something really stupid there and be a hero  because of it.  And I'll have to hear stupid slogans like "Boston Strong" and "Hold My Beer"

Hard to imagine Norris turning just 26 years old in April. Seems like he’s been around a long time. Maybe he’ll have the kind of year we’ve been waiting for. Supposedly, he is 100% healthy.

No word yet on whether he's in the best shape of his life?
