20 HRs and 100 RBIs

Recommended Posts

The last time that the Tigers have not had a player reach at least 20 HRs was 2002.  Randall Simon had 19 that year.

The last time that the Tigers have not had a player reach at least 100 RBIs was 2005.   Craig Monroe had 89 that year.

Castellanos with 18 HRs and 70 RBIs probably has the only shot at either of these levels this year.   2 HRs will be easier to achieve than the 30 RBIs.   I'm not sure that enough guys will get on base ahead of him to get him that opportunity.

Of course these stats don't mean everything. But it's a glaring reminder that the rebuilding can not come soon enough.

Yes, yes...I know.......The Tigers need someone to bat second in the order that can't hit over .200 but walks a lot. Geez....

Does anyone miss Alex?   The standard answer:  Yes, every time McCann comes to the plate.

I miss the production we got from Alex against RHP in the past.

Awesome!  I thought of that too when I saw @Shelton's post.

I miss Tony Phillips....

I also miss that pitch framin', walk drawin', beard growin' occasional month of 1.000+ OPS Alex Avila

You have to have disparaged the suggestion more than 10 times, probably more than 20, and usually in discussions that have nothing to do with Alex Avila.

Seriously, why was that such a crazy suggestion when he was batting against RHP?  Especially given the Tigers were almost entirely a RH hitting team in the time frame being discussed.

Alex, after a brutal spring, is actually doing OK. In his last 100PA he is at 360 OBP and 800 OPS with 4HR and his defensive ratings are still on the plus side. Always liked Alex, but I got the impression he is just a bit stubborn about things. Really resisted changing his mask -who knows what that may have cost him? Also stuck with that straight up batting stance even through years of always missing the ball on the top side.

I also think he battled concussion issues for quite some time.

That was likely the biggest reason for his low OBP from 13-15.

I've been thinking of reviving it here, of course.

Any mention of Bonds will likely stir up huge debates about steroids and the Hall of Fame.  Somebody will mention Pete Rose and all **** will break loose.
