On one hand, it's idiotic to cover up wrongdoing of an assistant coach. It's like the Tressel thing all over again, where the cost of the cover up is greater than the cost (to the program) of getting out in front and firing him as soon as you find out about it. On the other hand, the wrongdoing here is entirely non-football related (unlike Tressel or Penn St). Assuming Meyer (or anyone with OSU) was not the one telling her not to go to police, I have a harder time just throwing Meyer out. Regardless, I have a hard time seeing him remaining the coach after this.

The "good ol' boys" that's often part of high level programs populated with people who desire power and fame supersedes doing what's right and ethical.

I think this is debatable.  Among Meyer's rules for his players to be eligible to be a member of the team is treating women (and others) with respect.  If he knows of a coach that can't abide by that,.... it seems contradictory.

If that's the case, I agree. I know nothing of the team's rules of conduct, but I would expect/hope that the coaching staff would have to adhere to the same standards (and then some, considering they are adults and not 18-22 yr olds).

If he says his wife didn't tell him it's still a massive failure -   She's a nurse, she'd have to report it because of Title IX and if she didn't do that then I think they are both in trouble.      And if he claims he never knew it also shows a lack of institutional control, but far worse than practicing too much.

But what if Ohio State basically says - he knew it, he lied,  and we don't care because he wins.   How refreshingly honest would that be - because I got news for ya,  they don't care a bit.

I think they are going to come pretty close to this because I just don't see them not finding a way to excuse not letting him go.

EDIT: LOL - too many negatives in that - but I mean they are going to find a way to keep him.

Pretty sure the same thing was said about Tressel.

Meyer is a once-in-a-lifetime hire and replacing him would be a daunting task.  It will take more than a cover-up of domestic abuse for OSU to fire him.

Tressel was a once in a lifetime coach, too.  He was deservedly fired.

Meyer is going to be deservedly fired as well.  And I bet some of the coaching staff goes as well.

OSU got lucky that Meyer was available shortly after Tressel's exit.  Lightning rarely strikes twice in the same location, and college football is so corporatized that the financial and fan fallout of a Meyer firing would be very detrimental to the football program and the other sports that rely on its revenue.

There willl still be a massive following for OSU after Meyer is fired.  Don’t you think there’s would be some fallout if he were retained?

The fallout would be minimal and would dissipate shortly after the season has started and OSU is racking up victories.  It would be completely forgotten after they beat UM for the 35th time in a row.

I think you underestimate how many fans find Meyer to be a greaseball.  This isn’t something that’s going to be swept under the rug.  There are going to be those that will look past it.  Every program has that.

But Meyer isn’t skating from this.  There’s no way he can.  If what is known in the public eye is true and there are texts to corroborate what he knew, he’s out.

Placing him on paid leave of absence simply buys OSU time to get its ducks in a row to fire him with cause.  If they fire him without cause, he’s owed $38.5M.  OSU would be wise to do it’s due diligence.

You don't think his wife can throw herself under the bus far enough for him sufficiently to get him off the hook? She's a big beneficiary of that 38.5 million!

We shall see my friend.  If Meyer is ousted that would put the B10 East title in play for Michigan State, Penn State, and Wisconsin.  Ohio State would remain competitive but there would be a recovery period...unless they strike gold again with their next HC.

Even if she fell on the sword, it probably won't be enough.  They can go after him for lack of control.  I guy that micromanages as much as he does and is **** bent on keeping this coach around because he is his mentor's grandson doesn't know what's going on?  Nah, I don't buy it.

I want ISU's Matt Campbell.  Ain't gonna happen this season.  But I can wait 4 or 5 months.

Bob Stoops, a Youngstown native,  is not working at the moment.   I mean, he's the obvious choice, isn't he?   They could probably land him immediately too.   Still don't know why he picked such an odd time to leave Oklahoma, though.

If Stoops is available that’s more luck for OSU.

LOL.  That's hilarious considering Meyer's long long long history of having criminals on his teams.

Meyer is a slimeball.  Always has been.

Actually, he was my first thought.  But I think he decided to hang up the whistle because his father had health issues at an early age and Bob didn't want to fall into that trap.  At least that was the speculation of why he retired.  Maybe his mindset is different now after a couple of year off.  (I just looked and saw he retired last season, but for some reason it seems like its been a few seasons).

It sounds like the interim coach, Ryan Day, is pretty highly thought of.  If OSU decides a bunch of coaches that were in the know need to be replaced, my guess is that would be for those around the 2015 incident(s).  Day started at OSU in 2017.  So, its possible that OSU set this up intentionally to avoid replacing the interim head coach with another interim.
