The Orioles, Royals, and White Sox are too far ahead in terms of futility. We are in the group with the Reds, Rangers, and Padres right now.

Be optimistic. You can gain (lose?)  a ton of ground fast with long losing streaks.

Keep rolling Victor, McCann, and Machado out there and dreams will come true.

I don't foresee them "catching" the Orioles but I think they can pass the White Sox or Royals because of the head to head games remaining.  They got 10 games left with each of them, if they go say 3-7 or 2-8 against each of them that could close the gap quickly.  That's what happened last year, it didn't look like they'd have a chance to catch the White Sox but thanks to them getting crushed by them they ended up doing so.

This team is so close right now.  Why, if this 10 game losing streak had been a 10 game winning streak instead, we'd be right there with 46 wins now, on a pace for 90 or 91.  We're really, really close.  I'm not so sure that we should sell at the deadline.

no team had ever picked 1st twice in a row until the Nats in '09-'10, followed immediately by Houston with three in a row. Tigers will vie to be the third in 10 yrs.

Of course they used to alternate the No 1 pick between leagues. So until recently (last 10 years or so) it was not possible to draft first in consecutive years. In fact, the 2003 Tigers did not have the No 1 pick in 2004.

The Nats picked the perfect time to suck. Having back to back number one picks in the years with probably the two best pre draft prospects of the last decade.

Once they trade away Fiers and Liriano (and maybe Boyd), it weakens the rotation which will exacerbate the bullpen issues.  We might not see the type of pitching performances from last September where a SP barely got 5 IPs (if they got to the 5th at all), but they have a serious chance at getting into the 5th inning.

I think they squeak a fee out and go 3-77,  That way they get the # 1 pick again.

Good point, I was being a bit ambitious. They still play the White Sox and Royals more. 3 wins sounds about right
