Bosio Fired

Recommended Posts

Sorry folks,  I ain't buying Bosio's story.    If he was saying that about a white guy with no history of that being a term used to disparage white guys, I don't think the Tigers would have fired him.     My grampa used to call us little monkeys when we climbed on the swing sets,  we're all white, there was nothing racist behind it and my grampa was no racist, not one bit.  He used it because of how we could climb.

I think Bosio was probably joking around and 'busting balls' like you do with your buddies and said the wrong thing to the wrong guy and he's trying to find a way out of it so he can be hired somewhere again.       I don't know how you are with your friends but my friends and I say horrible things to each other,  if you brought someone new into the dynamic they'd probably be offended, especially if we said something that was racial or ethnic in nature.  We've known each other for 40 years.     And you can't talk that way in a professional setting.

Back in the days when the political forum was way more conservative, you came off as a liberal.  Maybe, it's because the forum needed balance.   I always disliked politics, but stuff going on in the country recently made me more aware.  I liked my life better when I was apolitical and wish I could get back to that!

I'm probably more conservative than I was then.

I stay away from there.  Caused me too may headaches.

I guess I don't see what Stumpf could do while lifting weights that would draw comparisons to a spider monkey.

Are monkeys ever left handed?

Well, the reality is that Bosio's days were numbered from the day Molitor decided not to keep Anderson in MN anyway, so it would seem Bosio did the Tigers a favor if he provided an easy reason for them to fire him.

What kind of contract terms do pitching coaches sign for? Could Bosio have more than a one year contract?

Much like coordinators in the NFL I'd imagine it's one less year than the manager at most.many are probably on two year deals

I don't think the Tigers would go to the length of saying Bosio said something offensive or inappropriate just so they could make room for Rick Anderson.    The Tigers or the Illitches, to my knowledge, don't operate that way.     That sounds like the kind of things James Dolan would do or Jeffrey Loria.

I'm thinking it was a case of him breaking stones and he let it get out of hand and said the wrong thing to the wrong guy who didn't take it as harmless ribbing.  A term like that could not be considered harmless.   We know Bosio's got a big personality and probably doesn't shy away from dishing it out, but this ain't your buddies at the bar, this is an office.     I have to believe that - because referring to a white guy as a spider monkey doesn't sound like it would get him fired.

On 97.1, Gardy said that Anderson did not want to be the pitching coach, which is why they settled on Bosio, so it's not clear that he'll continue in the role beyond this season.

I trust Avilia and the Tigers to have done the right thing. Reading Bosio's account a second time it sounds like he is presenting something plausible to keep future employment opportunities open. Or he is embarased . It did take him a day to respond and he did not say emphatically its wrong and he is suing. Only that he will talk to his lawyer.

Oh well..next...

Think I read two years on Bosio’s contract.

I am making assumptions here, but so is everyone else.

This might be the most true statement in this thread.

This PC stuff is retarded.

Oops.......................

I was at a Super Bowl party several years ago and made a "short bus" comment in front of family of a special needs child.  I immediately realized what I said and just wanted to crawl into a hole.

We can lament PC all we want and say sticks and stones and all of that, but sometimes words can be pretty hurtful.

Assuming Bosio is telling the truth, Avila looks like a stooge for sacrificing a successful pitching coach over a comment that was overheard and misunderstood. Clubhouse attendants are easy to find; effective pitching coaches are not.

This was Avila’s decision, backed by Ilitch. Gardy was explicit that he was not consulted. He and everybody else have been gagged on this, with at least the indirect threat of immediate termination (like Bosio) if they talk; Tony Paul’s tweet that the staff would be backing Bosio up if they liked him is utterly asinine.

Fenech hinted that Avila’s analytics people didn’t like Bosio. If we’re speculating, let’s throw that into the mix.

Tony Paul’s tweet was saying that if Bosio was telling the truth, he would have never been fired in the first place, so there would be nothing to gag.

Anderson has also been quoted as saying he would like to stay on because he has enjoyed working with these pitchers.

Unless someone's initials are PC, my statement is about something else totally.  People have no backbone today if a statement like this offends them.

Personally, I am offended by all of my Cleveland Indian friends.  I should have them all apologize.

Sure.  But it doesn't excuse the mistake.

This could be more of a Bosio issue than a PC issue.  We don't know why he was dumped from the Cubs.  It could be something similar for all we know.

Heck, we don't even know the specifics of this case, so who knows for sure.

I don’t really want to know what was said. I feel bad for whoever had to listen to that.

Really?  Now do you feel a little stupid?  This reminds me a bit of the Duke Lacrosse rape case.  There was a rush to judgment and the boys were tried in the court of public opinion.

Meanwhile, someone get Shelton some smelling salts in case he has to hear a word like Spider Monkey.

As a kid, I can remember running home to tell mom about someone calling me a name.  This is what she said to me.

Sticks and stones may break my bones but words will never hurt me.

We have come a long way as a society and I am glad.  However, there are far too many people walking around with a chip on their shoulder.  We are teaching our youth to be perpetually offended by seemingly harmless words.  Add spider monkey to the list of words that cannot be said.

We should start a thread and model it after the Christmas Pageant episode of Southpark.  Someone can post a word and  if anyone registered on this board is offended by the word we can eliminate it from this forum.

Bosio was dumped in Chicago in part so Maddon could bring on Jim Hickey, who worked in Tampa with him, so there's a pattern to that, too.

There are two types of coaches in this world.  One that has been fired and another that is going to get fired.  There are several reason to fire a coach. He has been around professional baseball for about 40 years.  If he were a racist he wouldn't of lasted this long.
