I can't fault the Tigers on Rodney - they stuck with him 5 yrs after his TJ and there was really no trend at all toward a lower walk rate, and then after they moved him it was still not until the 3rd season later he put it together. It has been weird luck for the Tigers that they happened to bring up two really late bloomers that finally turned into great relievers in Rodney and Miller, but under today's CBA there is no way to hold onto guys for that many years waiting for the light to go on.

But as always....You make a good point.  But don't worry, in about 2 or 3 more years the Tigers will sign Rodney when he is throwing a 88 MPH fastball and a 86 MPH change up and we will hear Rod talk about what a leader he is in the pen and how he gets guys out by location...and Price will say "The art of pitching..." until he blows his 10th save.

You kid about the details, but the Tigers are definitely an organization that likes the devils they know, especially those who came up in the system, so it's not inconceivable Rodney comes back on a flyer contract next year or the year after before hanging them up.

We've got Jacob Turner back.

Not to mention having signed Bryan Holaday, Omar Infante and Brayan Pena. And that's just since 2017.

Rodney never changed or got better, almost all of his numbers are identical. He had some good years in Detroit, but his walk rates have always made him more random
