That much bad blood between Dombrowski and Avila to get a minor deal consummated? Seems if anyone should be upset, it would be Dave—he was the one who got fired.

I think Avila and the rest of the front office may have grown tired of DD’s antics. And it’s probably true that Dave was lining up that job with Boston before he was out in Detroit.

Plus he may have left a dookie on Avila new office carpet on the way out the door

Mebbe, but Al benefited greatly from it.  I wonder if it’s the Ilitch family with the issue?

Why did Boston want Liriano?

Two of their bullpen lefties are crappy starters the other is a rookie

Dombrowski likes crappy veteran relievers.  He needs someone in the bullpen who can **** up the post-season.

Liriano has a career 1.41 GO/FO rate.  All the Red Sox want is a short-term inning-eater who induces ground balls in play.  Liriano might fulfill that role until Sale comes back ..at very little money since the Red Sox are already way over the LT threshold.

Red Sox probably were not all too serious about Liriano ..if at all.

Liriano has been good against lefties and has playoff experience doing that from last season
