My great grand father murdered a man who had murdered his father.  This all happened in Greece.  

I tried to ask him about it and he told me to **** off .

 

 

(I actually didn't know him and neither did my father.)

I believe that, 100%.  My wife loves Crete, so we have been there a few times.  If you've ever seen "The Guns of Navarone" where Gregory Peck is worried that Anthony Quinn, playing a Cretan,, is going to revenge-kill him, Peck says "He's from Crete.  Those people don't make idle threats."  I think that if you live in Crete and if your great-grandfather is alleged to have stolen someone's goat 100 years ago, you could be murdered at any time by the victim's family in retribution.  And it's a lovely place to visit, I highly recommend it especially the southwest coast which has not been absolutely ruined by German-British tourism.

There is something intriguing about winning when you don’t expect it, and when no name players perform like superstars. This is not a good team, but these guys refuse to let the other teams make them their woman.

The dog days will come, but with the season still relatively young and the weather getting nice, it was quite pleasurable listening to Dan & Jim call the last couple of innings tonight. I cared who won, just enough tenseness to make it interesting, but a loss wouldn't have been crushing when you go in with low expectations.

I loved Greece. The Greek people are fabulous. One of my signature memories is a dizzying nighttime drive down a mountainside of frightful switchbacks, and bottoming out around 2 AM in a slender valley blanketed in darkness except for one home with a brightly lit bay window showcasing a giant black velvet painting of the fat Vegas Elvis in a white leisure suit.  The luminous surprise of that window cut through the darkness like a lighthouse on stormy night. The utter ubiquity of American culture is amazing when you see it in the most unexpected places and in the most unexpected manner.

The "Flying Boats" weree used for coastal patrol and convoy escort as sub hunters and air/sea rescue. While in the navy I saw a few US amphibious patrol boats land and take off, it was quite a sight.

I always heard that they wanted the pilots to be amphibious so they could use their right hand or left hand dominantly when they came in on a banked landing from either side.

I have found the secret to a happy long term relationship is to establish low expectation for you and your behavior, in her mind, up front.

Two observations:

1.  Worn out from toiling for the man, I turned in around the 7th inning.  This morning, I approach my computer fulling expecting to learn how the bullpen blew the game.  Fortunately, my expectations were disappointed.

2.  Niko's HRs were long.

My expectations are the same.  I saw them as a 70-win team going into the season and I still see that. If they become an 81-win team, I will be very happy.

I would be happiest if: Victor retires.   We flip Fiers/Liriano/AWilson/Green/Iglesias/Martin for a bushel of intriguing prospects.   Miggy gets healthy.   Zimm throws a no-no on 7/27 and some team loses their mind.

Stewart and other young kids come up and replace the now departed vets so we get a couple months to see the future on the field.

All of that or if they win 92 games.  ?

I guess some people only feel good about themselves when they're reminding everyone how bad the Tigers will be this year.  They're doing it everywhere from MTS to the hallowed halls of The Athletic.

All that would make me happy too. 

I am still missing Scherzer and Verlander though.  It's hard to get excited about the rebuild when I know it would be unnecessary if they had those two.
