2018 Pistons Offseason

Portland over 41.5 is the easiest one for me.  That team is built for the regular season.

Might be a little value in the Bulls if they are done tanking.

No value in Portland at all.  Dame had to play out of his mind the last month or two of the season last year for them to win 49.  They went 12-3 in March and were well on their way to missing the playoffs before that hot streak.  I think they win more than 41, but not nearly enough to put money on it.

It just now hit me that most of Lebrons games will be 10:30PM games.  We will probably forget who he is by Valentines day.

bulls were tanking last year and won 27 games.

this year they add wendell carter, get lavine for (presumably) a full season, and add jabari parker.  plus markannen is jacked now and shouldnt be so affected by the rookie wall like he was last year.

on the other hand, they only won 27 games last year because niko got ridiculously hot for a month and niko is no longer on the team.

i tend to think carter will help them, lavine/parker will shoot them to a few wins, and markannen will improve.  theyre young and will run a lot and other teams will have nights when they just dont feel like expending that kind of energy.  they'll lose a lot of shootouts, but theyre not tanking i dont think.  i think they will win around 29-30 games.

But I need 34-35 wins to feel comfortable putting money on their over.  That is why I said there is a little value there, but not much.

Who?

Yeah, actually, that is a pretty interesting point for those in tune with TV ratings.  The NBA typically doesn't move west coast games early during the week, do they?  I want to say no, but I am not sure.

Nope.  Well in the playoffs they do.  But not regular season unless it's a holiday.

I'm sure ESPN, TNT, and advertisers wish Lebron had stayed in the east.  50% of the US population lives in the eastern time zone with another 30% in the central.

I guess you fix that problem by broadcasting a lot of road Laker games when they play eastern conference teams.

Lack of big-man depth is going to be an issue this year, especially if Griffin misses time. I'd like to see if we can make another move before the season starts.

Oh, and Ellenson better be ready.

In Zaza we trust.

Zaza in specific situations/in a bind? I can live with it. Zaza as a primary backup? I see a lot of issues.

But we need Leuer back soon (and it looks like he might be back before the season even starts) so we have some flexibility.

I believe you meant "when" Griffin misses time...

Why is Leuer JUST getting surgery now?  He had this knee problem all year.

I guess I don’t understand that timing either.

Stanley as a small 4?

They have time to find another big.

Yep. This is exactly what I was thought when I read it.

Come on now.  He just suffered this injury doing rehab work.

Quote

Veteran forward/center Jon Leuer underwent successful surgery on Wednesday, August 8 in New York in relation to a right medial meniscus injury that occurred during an offseason workout earlier this week.

Leuer will begin the rehabilitation process immediately and his return to full basketball activity will be updated prior to the start of training camp.

Oh, wow. I thought it was related to his other injury. I didn't realize all his joints were made of Doritos.

2 of the Pistons' back to backs are against the Warriors, which I argue is a positive because they are losses anyway.

Some of their back to backs are against some pretty bad teams too.
