2018 Pistons Offseason

Of course it all depends on chemistry since we haven't seen the "Big 3" play together for any length of time but I'd be very surprised if they don't top that 37.5 win number significantly if healthy.  I'd expect around 45 wins if the top guys remain relatively healthy.  Of course that's unlikely to happen so I wouldn't bet the house on it.

Does anybody actually think that 37 wins is their ceiling?  I'm as down on the Pistons as anybody but that's an extremely pessimistic take IMO.

Well, the 37 wins takes into account the health concerns. I'm not super high on this team, but even I believe they'd exceed 37 wins and land in a 5-8 spot if healthy. Problem is, they're a long shot to be healthy. So, while on paper 37+ wins sounds like a lock, in real life they actually need Blake and Reggie to remain on the court for that to happen and neither has a good record of that in recent history.

I pity the Pistons marketing department, which has to convince people to spend thousands on season tickets for a product that might produce 37 wins if their stars finally make it through a season healthy.

Can't argue with that but I do think that they could battle for home court in the first round if they're healthy and since this time of year is all about ifs and false hope, why the **** not.

I think it would be an almost worst case scenario for them to lose under 37.  Even though you can't count on Reggie and Blake being healthy for the whole season even if they both missed 20 games a piece they should still be in better shape than they were last year where Reggie only played 45 and Blake 25.(plus of course the games we got from Tobias and Bradley)  On top of that I think GRIII could be an underrated signing and provide useful to the Pistons as well as them just having better coaching this year.

With that said I foresee them going 43-39 with the potential to go about 7 games in either direction depending on the health and if Drummond is the same player he was last season or if he regresses to the guy he was a couple years ago, particularly in the FT department.

Surprised this wasn't posted yet. But it appears the Pistons are all-in on analytics now.

The hiring of Gupta & Gelfand represent moves to bring the best analytics minds from the teams most invested in analytics (Houston, Philly, GS).

Casey has also consistently mentioned how this team will rely on efficient shots on offense that are informed by analytics.

The Christmas day schedule is trash.

Celtics/76ers which is a good matchup.

Milwaukee vs The Knicks.  People in Wisconsin and New York don't even want to watch that game.

Portland vs Utah.  Meh.

OKC vs Houston.  Sort of interesting.  By Christmas Houston should totally regret picking up Melo.

And of course GSW vs The Lakers.

WNBA: Aces forfeit game against Mystics that was canceled

Quote

The league ruled Tuesday that Las Vegas will get a loss for its game Friday against Washington that was canceled when the Aces players decided not to play because of concerns about their health and safety after 26 hours of travel.

The Aces needed more than a day to get to Washington from Las Vegas because of flight delays and cancellations. By the time the team reached its hotel, it was 3:45 p.m. ET -- about four hours before the scheduled tip. The Aces players talked things over and spoke by phone with the union. They called the league to say they did not want to play.

Every airport on earth has multiple hotels 5 minutes away by bus.  Why weren't the players in one sleeping while travel was arraigned?

Stupid WNBA.

The Knicks always get Christmas games it seems and a lot of people like watching Giannis.  Portland and Utah are two of the more exciting young teams to watch and the other teams are all big draws, not sure what matchups you were expecting. Seems like a pretty standard Christmas lineup to me.

They could have done better. Toronto should have been given a Christmas day game over NYK.

Boston/Philly will probably be the best game because of the bad blood.

Should've matched Lakers against OKC and Houston against GSW. That would make for better games.

Bucks v Knicks is total garbage.

Bos/Phi

OKC/GSW

Hou/LAL Lakers don't deserve it.  But I know the league has to put Lebron on TV for Christmas.

NOP/Min Not putting KAT or Davis on is a mistake.

TOR/IND or TOR/Utah or TOR/MIL if you insist on Giannis being on TV.

Yeah, the Toronto exclusion is weird.  I'd say that Pelicans/Wolves is on par with Blazers/Jazz in entertainment value, Mitchell is the hottest young player (especially entertainmentwise) in the league right now so no way was he getting snubbed on Christmas Day plus Dame is a big draw.

Warriors/Lakers will be one of the most intriguing Christmas Day games in years simply because LeBron in L.A. is such a huge attraction (much moreso than LeBron in Cleveland and Miami). I know I'll be glued to the screen.

Last year's 3 and 5 seeds in the west is meh?

Melo to Houston is just dumb

You take the under with Lebron.  He knows how meaningless the regular season is and puts no value on it.  Just show up in April with everyone healthy and playing your best ball.

Cleveland was constantly 5-7 wins under what they could have been in the regular season.

I'm done with Portland.  They were completely exposed in the playoffs.

Its fair, but he may want home court in the west at least. LA's roster around Lebron is better than Portland's around Lillard. I have them down for 53

Haha, fair enough. I'm not some huge fan expecting them to win multiple titles , but idk how much better you do for a third best Xmas day matchup

They really only need it against GSW and Houston.  And I don't think they can win enough to pass either one of those teams.  I think LA ends up around 50 wins.

Houston is in big trouble.  Not sure everyone realizes how important Ariza and Mbah a Moute were to that teams success.  And when I say trouble, I only mean against GSW.

Yah, Ennis may replace Mmm bop, but Ariza is a monster loss for their style.

Lakers o/u is 48.5 fwiw

Boston at 57.5 seems like an over.

I dunno, not much there IMO.
