I think we can get to one page game threads around mid-August. The mlive people will probably be gone by that point.

Oh, he didn't have broken bones or a concussion,   he's gonna be hurting for a few days - he won't even miss a turn.

You’re breaking Keepleyland2’s heart. I think he was hoping the baseball to the face would put Zimm out of business.

The problem with an injury like this is that it makes no difference that he got up and walked off the field on his own. The problem is what happens in the next few days.  He’s going to have to remain under very close observation.

Yes, that is very much the case.  Guys have walked out of a boxing ring.  We have to treat this as a very serious situation, without regard for whether or not he has any value as a baseball player.

Mahtook optioned to Toledo; The Tigers need a fresh arm for tomorrow.

So if he's hurt we get to collect insurance and not pay as much!

So how do you figure that is a "massive win" in terms of a rebuild?

Jordan Zimmermann feels that he won't need to miss a start. He's got a big welt on the side of his face and it might be hurt a bit tomorrow morning, but otherwise he was in good spirits.

Avila's plan was to call up Jim Adduci to replace Mahtook.  But Jim told him to go **** himself - he's got too many business interests in Toledo to just walk away from them in the developmental stage.  So Avila did the only thing that he could, he apologized and quietly hung up the phone.

A bit unusual to send down the starting LF for a bullpen arm. An alternative woulda been JaCoby Jones. I guess they figure Jones can be an emergency IF if needed maybe...

Don't you just send down Norris for a reliever at this point and then call up a starter next week if Zim can't pitch?

saves a few bucks.

You guys are reading way too much in what was an attempt, that missed, at some humor with a loss, not scoring any runs and losing your $25 million pitcher 7 pitches into the game

business decision?

Guys like norris and jones probably have more value to us and others with an option year for the future. Whereas, someone like Mahtook it probably doesn't matter so you can burn that option for just a day or two.

During the break between spring training and opening day, he made 20K in a poker tournament at the local casino.

Well yeah, and that's just the tip of the iceberg.  He has already "acquired", shall we say, a controlling interest in 4 strip clubs in Toledo.  How much free cash do they "throw off", if you will pardon the expression, on a daily basis?  I have no idea but it has to be $1,000 each, wouldn't you say?

But the jewel in the crown is going to be poker, I'm convinced of that.  And before anyone says "oh yeah, a high-stakes poker game in Toledo" you should know that some very serious, well-financed players fly in from all over the country every night to play cards with Jim.  He wins every time.  And it isn't because he cheats when he deals, although he could if he wanted to.  He doesn't deal.  He has this young kid, Artie Lewicki, as a paid dealer with no vested interest whatsoever, just so all of the players know that the cards are being dealt fairly.

Lewicki has a lot of experience with that sort of thing.  He knows how to play dumb and can make everyone laugh.  Nobody ever suspects a thing.  And if anybody accuses them of cheating, they'll have to deal with Johnny Barbato.

Norris only has 90mph ?

Just looking at Norris' chart. Man it is sad. This kid is toast. He came to Detroit with a filthy 95+ FB with Verlanderesque spin on it, now his FB is down >5 mph, the spin is down at least 500 RPM, and he is throwing 50% sliders = prescription for more arm trouble. I have no idea what Bosio has in mind for him, but maybe Daniel should hope we send him to the White Sox and maybe Cooper can save him, because he is one messed up puppy now.

You've put your finger right on it, it's Lewicki's personality that gives him so much credibility with these billionaire CEO's who fly in to play cards with Jim.  He's such a nice kid that he couldn't possibly be doing anything unethical, and he routinely rolls up $1,500 per night in tips in addition to his rakeoff from each pot.

I'm not sure that Barbato is close enough to the table to influence the proceedings.  He's more likely to be at the front door, influencing journalists to find something else to do.

The beauty of this is that the pizza joint the abuts the left field corner of the stadium there used to be a strip joint.  If he acquires that pizza joint, look out.

Matt Shepard mentioned that Zimmermann has a steel plate in his jaw from a previous line drive off of his mouth.  So that seems like a pretty fortunate preventative maintenance piece of equipment, eh?

wow that is rough....Norris is going to get at least 15 starts this year once other guys flame out or get traded. So there will be plenty of time to see if he can figure things out.
