People I spotted in that movie:

James Garner (of course... Rockford)

GD Spradlin (Godfather II and Apocalypse Now)

James Cromwell (Babe, guy from Six Feet Under, dad in Revenge of the Nerds)

C Thomas Howell

Jenillee Harrison (the new girl on Three's Company, Dallas)

The guy from Porky's (not pee wee)

The full trailer.... it's like Smokey and the Bandit with a tank rather than a Trans Am.

When they trade Fulmer and Greene, we'll win 5 games total in August and September.

This.  Add Castellanos, too.

Was Dolph Sweet in it?  If not, I don’t give a **** about it.

The Ohtani story is good stuff.  I hope he can perform well enough as a pitcher and position player to keep doing both for several years.  Its just remarkable to see a player good enough to do both.  A rich man's Brooks Kieschnick.

There's always been good hitting pitchers but this guy is taking it to a whole new level. Lucky he has a veteran manager who know what he's doing.

I would guess that you are imagining that. I think they won only 5 games in September or something ridiculous like that to achieve the impossible dream of picking first overall.

I mean late in the games. Because they were scrappy and didn't give up. They just sucked.

I know one of the ausmus teams had a bunch of late inning wins anyway

My friend is onscreen at 10:13 of the movie.   He was a student in the classroom

I think his team may have lost some interest after all the trades were made last season.  I don't think they gave up on games in any of Ausmus' seasons prior to that.

Bad teams will be behind late more often and have more chances to make a comeback.

I think the comebacks are somewhat random variation in that it requires a string of hits, which generally means the reliever has to not have anything and hitters not hit a line drive at someone or hit into a DP.

It takes a special team to do poorly the whole game and then make a big push at the end.  I'd much rather have that than a team that scores a bunch of runs in the first inning and then hangs on to win.

It shows they have “guts”.

The one potentially positive thing about Gardenhire is he has generally had good bullpen performance on his teams.  I don't know if that's because of him, but that is an area where a manager might be able to make a small impact.

Now yer talkin'

That reminds me of a health problem that I had once - my privates had turned orange.  I went to the doctor, he made a cursory examination and then he asked "Have you had unprotected sex with any women lately?"  I answered that I had not.  His eyes narrowed.  "Have you had unprotected sex with any men lately?"  "No, no" I said, "nothing like that.  Honestly, I have no social life at all.  Most nights, I just sit on the couch watching porno movies and eating Cheesies".

Is he a good hitting pitcher?  Or is he a legit multidimensional player the likes of which we have not seen?
