Ken Holland Expected to Return With or Without a Contract

And this stupid team goes and wins meaningless games the last two weeks.    They can't even lose right.    This is tough to see, and we are spoiled.

Worst record since the trade deadline, 5th worst is as bad as they've been all year. The Canucks were hilarious, going 6-1-2 their last nine including many comebacks.

Our best hope is that after the draft Holland takes a nice long summer vacation in the Mediterranean. Don't re-sign Green, don't sign JVR, don't get Pacioretty.

Don't forget Joe Thornton. This is Kenny's entire off-season plan though, to a Teeeeeee.

Any smidgen of cap space Holland will have will be devoured by an overpaid and overlong contract for a middling free agent. Put that in the death and taxes category.

We'll see. He certainly did as recently as 2 summers ago, with the horrible Nielsen and Helm signings.  Didn't last summer though. Signing Daley as the only move was arguably a quieter offseason than any other team in the league.

I'm hoping the Draper/Cleary/Horcoff contingent in the front office start to get more sway, below from the Athletic was comforting that at least someone is trying change things in house:

Quote

On the progressive side falls a guy like Kris Draper and the player development duo of Shawn Horcoff and Dan Cleary. They’re aggressive in trying to modernize the Red Wings' operations and incorporate new ideas. They’re pushing for cutting edge technology and player development systems, like the implementation of the Power Edge Pro skills training that helped turned Connor McDavid into a hockey cyborg. It's safe to say they would have pushed hard to sell at the deadline last year and be aggressive in rebuilding this year.

Rebuilds take 8 to 10 years. Kids aren't the answer. This is a men's league. We like our team. Less can be more exciting. If you expect cups you're in the wrong league.

Thankfully it appears Holland has abandoned those rather laughable talking points.

Those aren't talking points, those are the pillars with which you build a successful franchise on.

You may want to listen to Holland's comments today. Or maybe you don't. Because he brought many of the talking points back! Yuck.

I'd rather remain ignorant for now, lol.

It sounds like Mrazek will be in goal for Philly in the playoffs.  Just need him to win 6 games in the playoffs to get 2nd round pick.  Both his trade and Tatar deal are good enough reasons to bring him back imo.  This should be a fun draft.

You don't have the talent in your farm system to make this happen Kenny.

I don't think they are incredibly far off, either.  Put in Rasmussen, Svechnikov, Cholowski, Hicketts, Hronek and possible first rounder this year, they should have a bigger and faster team.  They definitely need a backup goalie, and one goalie prospect.

Karch and Anderson's take on the Holland extension yesterday was that it was the natural thing to do if they are really waiting for Yzerman's availability. They save having to buy out a large dollar 5yr deal for whoever they might bring in to replace him now. They couldn't offer any inside evidence other than the logic of it though.

I think two years is when the projected Seattle franchise would start up too, and there have been some vague rumors that Holland would be interested in that job.  Very flimsy though.

Where have you seen that?  Brian Elliot started their last two games and shutout the Rangers to close out the season while Mrazek gave up five goals to the Islanders in his last start.  Unless Elliot reinjured himself I have a hard time imaging Mrazek starting many games let alone playing well enough to get 6 wins.

Caputo mentioned it on his Hockey show last night.

Not sure if we want to start a new offseason thread?

I really hope Rasmussen is on the team, he can't play in the AHL so the NHL makes the most sense.  He's up to 23 points in 7 playoff games right now.

Elliot just gave up a crappy rebound and gave up a goal 3 minutes into the game so we may see Mrazek some time...

edit: 3-0 with 5 minutes left in the first, I think Petr will play for sure haha

LOL, Mrazek in net! Elliot gave up 5 goals on first 19 shots.

Petr currently slightly better, 10 saves in 12 shots with about half of the third left.  The Flyers defense is a mess too.
