Who Did Miguel Pass Today?

Recommended Posts

Cabrera has 1 HR closing in on Memorial Day weekend.  He is only 1/3 of the way to free curly fries if Arby's would waive the "per game" requirement from the fine print.

This is a great thread in a pretty horrible season.

Much appreciated.  These days I use it as a personal reminder of the reality of slow progress.

Going to the Injured List now?

The timing is right to rest him and evaluate what is wrong with that knee.  There is no reason to play him in Atlanta.

My guess is that they'll have several people look at the film and render a decision on what is ailing him.  I'm discouraged knowing that it has bugged him since ST.  I'm also discouraged that Miggy has more dough than he needs to get the best nutritionist and health specialist to get the most out of his aging body.  He's heavy and even a dope like me knows that the weight over a long season is going to take its toll on his legs.  And poor nutrition is going to affect his vision and reflexes as well.  He still has the knowledge and experience that made him the best a few years back, but he'd better get serious about making the most out of the time he has left on the field or I'm going to owe Gmoney a snickers.  And I'm a cheapskate and won't be happy about that.

The singles list has some lesser known names, and I'll throw in a few words about them if I have the time.  What's also interesting is how often you'll pick up the same name on a number of lists within a few games.  They're all related.

GAME 63

Games Played - 2,324 (T106) - Passed <CHARLIE GEHRINGER> at 2,323.

Plate Appearances - 9,930 (89) - Passed DOC CRAMER at 9,927.

Doc Cramer was primarily a singles hitter who played for the Tiger the last 7 years of his 20-year career.  He amassed a total of 2700+ hits over his career, and may have had over 3,000 hits had he become a starter earlier than his fifth professional season.  He was a 5-time all star, though never with the Tigers.  But he was a key player in the Tiger's 1945 World Series win, batting .379.

After playing, he coached with the Tigers in 1948 and then with others before retiring to New Jersey.  He often went hunting with Babe Ruth in his retirement and has a street and sports complex named after him in his home town of Manahawkin, NJ.
